There are a multiple edits out there that if you cap alien planets befor e your opponents can you have a very good chance of winning. My question is what do you do. Do you ppt till getting enough cash to probe and find alien space or do you ppt to get enough cash to build a base that is going to eventually get taken? I have won some games that I probe till I find alien space then take planet and I have lost the same way. If you get in soon enough and the fig cloud isn't a factor do you spend your last dime on probes or do you set aside some cash for base building incase you can actually build a base up enough to not get it taken out easily, or do you go red and cash till forever hoping you find alien space that way? I guess I want more answers than the "depends on the edits" when it comes to unlim games. If anyone can step up to the plate and egad violate the unlim is bad vs turns are good thought here it would be apreciated. Yes there are games that are fun that are not turn limited so to placate to the turn games are da sliced bread faction I will give you that. IMHO Winning unlim games requires a different strategy. How would the turn players fare in an unlim where their uber photon scripts really don't work. Being an english as my primary language person I might not get my point across the way I want it but am willing to don my asbestos suit and let others flame away. Are there any reliable strategies for unlim games? Yes I know unlimitted cash means unlimitted resources but what I believe a lot of people forget is that even in an unlim game we are all limited by the 24 hr/day cycle. So there is not an "unlim" game [^] you're still limited by you have the same 24 hours your opponent(s) do. IMHO then there are different strategies which allow you to use your only "shared" resource (time) better. I will bow down to the turn players that say that you have to know the game to be "elite" but also don't you have know the edits to be able to figure out a way to "beat" the system, and for you naysayers saying that having a red cashing 24X7 gives you unlimited resourses it is also possible for you to do the same. So what if instead of needing X amount of figs to #SD# this ship you need 3*X to #SD# him you both are limited to 24 hrs/day so who is better at what? Sorry for the rant but I am primarily an unlim player because I hate the fact that if hit a wrong key I have let someone else down that probably has invested a lot of time(which IMHO is in short supply) in the game. Aw **** forget the entire post.... I just realized that we are only on this earth for X amoount of time and the time we waste arguing is time we could have used for more productive activities. |

If I get in early enough (meaning no fig grids) I use ATTAC's world autoexplore. It ports and trades, as well as explores- voiding sectors that meet certain criteria. After I have enough sectors voided and enough cash, I go check out the voided sectors to find the planets. As for the rest of your post, Unlim games often turn into a war of attrition. If you get in late, you'll find there are only a few corps with all the goodies, and you'll end up dead on a pdrop. |

Are you talking solo or with a corp? Are you talking truce or no truce? I'll make the assumption you're playing solo and there is no truce. In that case, even though I am far from an unlimited expert, I would cash up quick and just start killing the other people in the game. If there is an instant lvl 4+ (as there always seems to be in an unlimited), I would get one of these started to aid me in my killing if needed. Unless the alien planets come loaded with cash, they're not worth taking. An unlimited game without a truce shouldn't last long enough for it to have any real effect. |

Even though you just #SD# me when I was disconnected That is basically the strategy I have used in the Sub Zero edits and from what I can tell the strategy most people use. |

quote:Originally posted by Promethius When I logged in and saw your corp, I made it a point to get your red first and Akor second (not sure why he was sitting at dock in that pretty little fed ship). Because of you, I have since changed my tactics. You will never see me sitting at dock unless I have dock surrounded and I'm running a ptorp script from dock. Thanks for the lesson. Hmmm. I thought I was FedSafe. When you popped me, I thought I might have been sitting out in space. (BTW, since the game was peaceful up to that point, I was sitting there editing the ck ship stats file for that game...putting in the alien ships that running the script wouldn't give me. As I was working in the ConText editor, I didn't see you come.) I am going to have to check if I'm Fedsafe each time I'm at dock now too because of that. |
