Maggie just called me and asked that I make this post on her behalf sense she is unable to get online. You may or may not know that there is a huge category 5 hurricane heading towards Louisiana. She asks that everybody keep Louisiana in their thoughts and prayers durring this rough time.
It appears this storm is going to give them a hard time, and if the storm hits just right maps would have to be redrawn showing New Orleans under water.

Without a doubt, the people in the path of this storm will be in our thoughts and prayers. Tornadoes are bad enough here in KS, I can't even imagine the devastation that a hurricane of this magnitude will bring.

BTW, if anyone is not aware of the problems New Orleans is facing because of the elevation of the area, I would suggest getting Google Earth (free) and "flying" to view the area's elevation (and a lot more).

I hail from Central Florida, and i can say hurricanes totally suck. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that couldnt get out of the way. A cat 5 is definitely a life changer and a house mover. With a 27 foot storm surge and a city 7 feet under sea level, i fear the worst might be in the future. Plus the fact that most of the houses and buildings are 50-75 years old....tell her to let us know she's ok when its over. God bless...........

My thoughts and prayers go out to Maggie, also Peacekeeper, he is in Louisiana as well, and I haven't heard anything from him since last night, I pray they make it okay, and come out with as little damage as possible, I lived in Fla for 10 years and can honestly say hurricanes blow bigtime, also had to go through them at sea in the Navy too and that really sucked bigtime.
So Maggie and Peacekeeper you guys are in my thoughts and prayers.

If I heard on the news correctly the governor ordered a mandatory evacuation earlier today, so at the very least all citizens and pets should be far out of harms way.

Oh and i also wanted too say that there are several thousands of people down here that don't have the means to escape the storm that people don't think about. There are over 30 thousand people in the superdome in neworleans that didn't have no ways of leaving so yall keep them in your prayers!

"Mandatory evacuations" are just a way for the local government to pass along responsiblity for you staying behind. The police have no means to enforce such a request. Its kind of a stay at your own risk thing....

its downgraded to a cat 2 or 3 now, new orleans is still in the hurt bag, but it looks like most people got out or are hiding in the superdome (which has a 20ft hole in the roof, lol)
salvation army is also already in action down there, so hopefully the levies won't go, and clean up will be minimal (as minimal as it can be with a cat5)
hope all are safe and to hear from you guys soon
