After reading Slim Shady's cap file and learning from it, I realized that noobs like me could really learn from watching the pros do it.
For example, when Gunslinger asked Slim where the dock backdoor was located Slim made some calcs and gave him the sector number. From that example I can suspect that there is a lot of info that noobs can learn from in the cap files of greats.

Slim, I would like to have ALL of yours if that is ok.

I have not been in every major big game. I have, however, been in every Big Game....and was on every winning team for Big Game.

Big Game is the name of the large draft style game started by Space Ghost. I was fortunate enough to be on Prestone's corp for the first one (handle was Quasi), Timborulz's corp for the second one, and Kemper3's corp for the third one (vers. 3.1)

big games have been USO which I never participated
HHT which I only played one
BOTE which I only played one

Don't mean to leave any of the 'debatable' ones out, but, well, they are debatable. <G>

mostly just cap files of pwning people
make sure you don't get any unlim logs, heh. 25megs of just wssm/wsst would not be that fun to scan through

also, alot of the time, what "good" people do, is done behind the scenes in twx (which i dont believe shows up in logs)
so for ex if i had not been a newb, i would have just fired up my backdoor finder script and found it twice as fast (or if i had a ztm hit $D-[sd sec])
not sure CIM prompt shows up in logs either..
just so happens i tend to do most things by hand or macro so it all shows up (that day specifically as it was my first game in like 6 months, heh)
i still have my logs from USO if u want those heh.
the first 1/10th of day 1 log is me trying to guess my login/pass as vader changed it on me. then i log in and call him a putz and he tells me i suck... pretty much the same as every game i join on his server

Just a bit of a correction here. Akor wants game logs, not cap files. Cap files generally refer to a cap of a specific incident, like a podding or a bug. A game log is everything from the game.

Akor, you'd see a lot of me furbing and if it gets boring to me I can't imagine anyone else wanting to read it.

I do occasionally open one and edit the junk out. After all, the whole reason I play games like that is to learn from them...and I'm a slow learner so I keep the logs.

Occasionally I save some funny stuff too. Here's one that gave a few of us a chuckle.

F Blue A Maggie appears in a brilliant flash of warp energies!
F Blue A Pulsar (trader in tow) enters the sector with Maggie.

I don’t think you want a copy of my logs all that’s in them is a bunch of CIM reports, fig reports, and me messing up might end up being more funny then helpful also I don’t have time to go through them before handing them out there’s some things that happen in the game that is just best left in the game.

I have plans to post some more caps on our perma site when I get time I’ll post an update here when it finally happens.

btw hellcat has a great collection of caps posted on his site you should start there.

I'm not looking for caps that show how bad the dudes are but after seeing Hellcat's caps I did learn that if you ride around in an Interdictor you are going to get a lot of easy kills...no brainer. I also noticed that he didn't stray far from FedSpace when he was in one. From that I learned that the "good" players in those days would be considered noobs nowdays since most current greats play red and are usually--if never--only seen in Fed when cloaked, and that by only their teammates doing a ta scan.

A great player has said "scripts don't make the elite, the elite make the scripts". Besides, you can see when a lot of scripts are being fired up because the would say "cks" or "Path Blaster" in the logs.

I have done manual CIMs. It shows up as the ":" prompt; or otherwise you see a list of lot of sectors and ports

Woah, Thanks for that correction. Glad we had the chat last night. Wondered what all the questions were for.

Yes, I called them caps since that is their file extension name: xxx.cap as well as because Trade Wars Helper called them that back in the early 90s.

Harley corrected me. I wanted log files. Since, the files that TWX generates that have the extension .twx are called twx files, I thought that since it also generates files with the extension .cap and that that was what one of the oldest Trade Wars helpers called them, that the game log files were called cap files. Finding a backdoor is easy in twx provided you have a good
ztm (which we did finally have). Just type this:
$d-

In that order. $, d, -. Then type in the sector number you
want to find backdoors for. Eg, stardock, Rylos, whatever.
It'll pull up a "mock holoscan" of what it last saw there,
or just the sector number and warps-in if you haven't been
there. To get out of twx just hit $ again, it'll take you
back to the game.

Not true. Some of the greats do tend to play red, but I would say that more play blue. Also, you can't get a corpie's location via TA if they are cloaked and it's very common for fedsafe blues to hang out at Dock, especially early in the game.

OK, well, hum. Speed Demon is my perma corpie and my friend. My brother from another mother. But where did you get the idea that he's the best CEO in TW? He's a Darn fine player, but he doesn't CEO all that often and even if he did, IMHO Kemper3 would still be the best CEO in the game today.

But the game just started and there had not been time to ztm and someone was asking Slim where the backdoor was. He could have said, "Ok. I'll have it in 2 hours. Check back with me then." Instead he used his head and made the calcs manually. See what I mean? Those are the kind of things I'm wanting to see in the log files.
