If you should come into a game and get killed, don't cuss the player that did it. While they may be in the mode of killing everything that moves, cussing them out for podding you will surely make you a target and get you #SD#.

The reason I posted this is that I was in a game that had been running for a week (unlimited moves) and had been dropping mines. A player comes into the game and runs into mines - podded. I take him to dock and front him 150k and he buys a ship w/o a scanner (multiple hostile alien races in the game) and promptly runs back into my mines and ends up #SD#. He logs back into the game the next day and goes off. Now a lot of us would have been willing to help him out until that point, but his attitude guaranteed that he would not stay in the game very long.

Long story short: If you get podded that is part of the game. If you talk to the person that hit you, possibly they will tell you where you messed up or help you out. If you cuss them, then there will be no help and you will most likely be #SD#.

Ive personally been on both ends of this type of deal. When i first started playing, I got blown up on endless occasions with no help from anyone, and for the life of me couldnt understand why. It boils down to the point that getting fragged isnt a personal poke at you as a person, its a result of crappy game play from you as a player. As a noob you dont get this right of the bat and some ppl take it personal. As far as the cussing and b#tching is concerned, they will learn soon enough how things are, and if they don't then they werent destined to be a part of this community.

On that note, long ago I had a similar thing happen to me when logging into Toadville, a player there named Magic mistook me for a dupe cause I happened to log in at the time she SD'd another player, she made it her mission to either pod me or SD me, I kept asking her why she keeps doing that to me and thats when I found she thought I was a dupe. I asked why and she told me that I know why, so I let her know I wasn't a dupe and will prove it, and then set out on a mission to get better and pod and SD her which I had done a few times and wound up making aliances with Comet, Undertaker. Maverick and a few others and we all made it a point to SD Magic.

My point is I never got negative to the other players and some helped me get better and I made friends in the game, and I got better as a player and proved myself, on that game I went by Ghost Ryder, I got into the game again after a while off at the request of my little brother who at the time went by Incubus, he had that name a while up to that point, and I started to learn about scripts soon afterward, then after a time of playing I semi retired and became s sysop.

So for the noobs I say this, keep a level head and don't take what happens in the game personal, use it as a learning tool and get better to evolve into a better player then take it from there and evolve to what you desire.

Hell this happens to me all the time I get cussed I give the guy cash for a ship maybe even tow him to dock after he stops cussing and I explain to him why or what happened. It stills upsets me because when I was starting out if I cussed one word about being podded I would have been #SD# and labeled a whining newbie brat and been #SD# on site from the day forward instead of the better players saying naa he is ok he can take a pod and not tell me I'm an Butt for it. One of the main reasons why I don't venture out to games on my own anymore and I just stick with the tourneys.

Speed that is exactly my point, back then I would have been podded and SD'd on site if I did the same thing, this is what I am trying to get across to todays noobs, that if a better player takes you out, then find out why without cussing him and you might get more help from that player and get a better understanding on what he did wrong and help on correcting it, probabably from the same player that took him out, and I get it too from the noobs I take out too, if they showed some of the respect we had back then they might get better help on how to better play the game!

One of the best approaches to learning is to play on servers were there are people who are known to help. More established servers are more likely to have skilled people, more those skilled people are more likely to assist you. At least that was always my experience, and how I learned to play.

Amen, you said a mouthful with that JH, and I hope the noobs listen and get the skills and training they want and need.

This is too funny, most noobs dont even know there is a fourm
let alone EIS. 2nd, most noobs cant use comms to ask for info,
help. last game or 2 games, a noob came in, took him 3 day's
to figure out how to say hello to my hello, day 1! I think
we need to add the "frustrated" factor to it too. the noob
trying to figure what command keys he looking for. and when
to use them. yes it is wrong for a player new or not, to
go off on another player. and more so after being helped.

Yeah it is funny that they learn how to use the comms fine for using them to cuss us out, and don't have a clue how to use them before. I know how you feel Speed, I had enough cussing at me after the fact and all too.[;)]

Well from my experince its a game. I started out on a server with only 1 other player, he was duping like a mofo, 5 dupes in his corporation, but at the time I didnt know that. It was a massive stock game, think something like 500 turns, 10k sectors, stock everything, slowly I built a base near terra, but I didnt get killed by him becuase he was never there, finally I had enough figs to take him, so I did....

I still cuss Speed Demon out when he kills me ;D
