Hey all. I'm back to TW after about a 9 year absence (yeah that same old story) I'm still reading all the forums and guides and learning this stuff again. Two quick questions:

1)Many games seem to have the Aliens I remember from the old games disabled. Why is that? Were there bugs or something going on?

2)I've also seen quite a few games that have made Ferrengal invincible. Can anyone explain the rationale on this?

Just so you know, I'm not trying to rip the people running any of these games. I'm just glad that the game is still around.

Ferrengal is not invincible. None of the planets are. The invincible ferrengi refers to the planet can not be destroyed. I run 2 games with the old alien traders and old style ferrengi running(I think 2, might be one). Here is a tip: learn scripts!

Hey Bethel thanks for getting back so quick. Does this mean I CAN invade Ferrengal, and take it over, I just can't blow it up?
Sorry for being so ignorant.

BlackHawk - yes. Incidentally, if you haven't played for 9 years, the aliens now are going to be different than the aliens you remember.

Well after nine years I would hope that even the aliens had wised up in their ways as well! LOL [:P]

I liked Aliens befor cause they would steal your cash and what ever you had in your holds. You had a choice to give it to them and they would let you go, or you could attack them and hope you won. :)

Also the Ferrengi OverLord is no longer in the game.
But be warned , in most games if there are aliens they are not
NOT pushovers like in the old days.

Welcome back , things have change for the better I feel.
Scripts are a must if you like to be sucessful.
Plenty of places to play too.

Welcome back again and best of luck.

BlackHawk,

I know how you feel, I had been out of the loop for a while too. Now I am still relearning a whole new way of gameplay, I have been back at this since Oct, 2003 and still am learning how to play all over again, when I get the chance to play that is, I also started sysoping my own gameserver now as well, and between work, school, and hosting games I get few chances to play anymore. But do enjoy the times I do get to play.

As Vid said about the aliens, they are tougher and seem more like real players at times with the right settings on them. That is if you like playing with aliens in the game, a lot of players now days don't like aliens in games, but I kinda like them for the nalstalgia of the game, and have games which has aliens in them and I also have some that do not. The players choice, but a couple of my games have aliens that are almost as hard to beat, almost like playing a player. But they can be beat, like some average players can, with the right scripts and strategy you can get better used to the new playing styles of todays players, I suggest checking into Traitor's site and RammaR's site for some of the things you need to get reaquainted with the game. But most of all find a server you like and have fun getting back into the game, there are a lot of great players out there that will help you get back into it again. And there is a whole slew of servers out there to choose from.

Welcome Back!!!

You guys have forgot two very important things: To get SWATH and TWX Proxy. SWATH is gotten at http://www.swath.net/ and TWX Proxy is gotten at http://www.twxproxy.com/. SWATH is a term designed especially for TW and TWX Proxy as a proxy connection that has the script compiler most used by the TW community. TWX scripting language is the one the others are refering to to script in. A MUST-HAVE. AND it is free too. This advice is from one who hadn't played in 10 years until recently

Wow. I'm just trying to get set up. Having never hosted before and only played TW back when it was a BBS Door (back some fifteen years ago-which dates me terribly, I guess). I always liked playing without add ons (or I guess without scripts, as they call them now).
But I imagine that I'll have to get them; as I am going to host TW.

Does anyone know any newbie games that us newbies can play (to get us ready for the level of games that seem to go on here)?

telnet://216.104.67.240 is Ice 9. They have the best games sat up for noobies. But after playing there, there is no "Step 2" to go before the tournament style play here. You just go there, get a feel for what the game is like nowdays, then jump into a game on Black Sun, Alien Base or others listed in the Game Rebangs thread.
As for using the TWX language to make sysop scripts, see http://www.grimytrader.com/. That is Grimy Trader, the main script website. They have a forum that you can ask questions in and get prompt answers.
Best of luck to you. Am in script writing mode right now myself but will be looking for your board to show in the Game Rebang section.

Thanks Akor! I'm just getting my server started. With a 20k game no less (lol)! And thanks for the scripts; I have a feeling I'll be needing them! And I will post when I rebang the game!
