Ok i was thinking about opening up a 24/7 Tradewars chat room,
I guess it could be used to for a whole lot of things :)
But mostly people could get help or answers to questions faster, and it could even lead up to some smack talk :) which could make for some good games :), anyway was looking for some feed back and was woundering if this has ever been done before?

Here is how most of us get into the "in" crowd. First we sign up for big draft games as noobs-in-training. Then we get an ICQ messenger and fill it with as many numbers as we can from the member list here. Then, if players start putting us on their contact list we start chatting with people while getting to know them better. In the meantime, when the draft is over, the corps' CEOs choose members, then make practice games to train them. There we get tutored as well as have any questions answered when not in practice via ICQ. So ICQ is a big part of communication amoung TW players.
In short, your suggestion is very good but I think we already have a 24/7 chat medium---ICQ.
But that is my opinion. Having said this, what is really needed is a conferance room where corps can have private chats with all present at once. It would be like a big whiteboard that several members can chat to at once rather than a two-way only chat like most insstant messengers are. ICQ doesn't have that.

Actually, ICQ does support multiple-user chats. The impression I got though was that superman was suggesting a sort of TW IRC channel.

You mean you guys don't have a TW IRC channel? It's a must have for any corporation :)

I don't know if we are helping Superman but you guys are helping me find a multi-chat program. ICQ does have IRC: irc.icq.com. That is the multi-chat mode. ICQ Lite has it but not ICQ Pro. When ICQ Lite crashed on me when I had just started using it, I d/l ICQ Pro and have been using it ever since. But might try the Lite to see if it still crashes. If not, great...has more features anyway. Strange that the Lite has more features than the full version Pro. By the name you wouldn't think so. Kinda like the Vader edits....tricky.[:)]

It is used to test the new things they plan to put on the pro version when they up grade it, so far my ICQ 5 lite is still kicking.

Yahoo IM is great for voice chat you dont have to stop what your doing in game to type out anything. From what I see some of the top corps use that, this way they can voice chat live while in game and coordinate attacks and stuff. And only use keyboards for Trade Wars. Yahoo IM has a no hands option that allows you to talk hands free.

I happened upon a program called Trillian Basic/Pro 3, it seems to be just what you are looking for. The Basic version is free and the Pro verison is 25-dollars (also has a trial period), it looks like the basic version just does not include video chat and some nice graphical aspects, thought it seems even to include audio capabilities in the basic version. You can easily link this through you ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, or MSN.

Software Publisher's Description

Trillian is a fully featured, stand-alone, skinnable chat client that supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, and IRC. It provides capabilities not possible with original network clients, while supporting standard features such as audio chat, file transfers, group chats, chat rooms, buddy icons, multiple simultaneous connections to the same network, server-side contact importing, typing notification, direct connection (AIM), proxy support, encrypted messaging (AIM/ICQ), SMS support, and privacy settings.

Without stealing your home page and with no other included software, pop-ups, or spyware, Trillian provides unique functionality such as contact message history, a powerful skinning language, tabbed messaging, global status changes (set all networks away at once), Instant Lookup (automatic Wikipedia integration), contact alerts, an advanced automation system to trigger events based on anything happening in the client, docking, hundreds of emoticons, emotisounds, shell extensions for file transfers, and systray notifications.

Version 3.1 adds a new identity feature that helps you organize your home and work contact lists, HTML editing for AIM profiles, UPnP support, enhanced IRC performance, and speed enhancements.
