Ok, I opened up a server mostly for Stockies Corp in CW to have someplace to practice at. I also had one other game open, one that I was testing some edits out for a game I wanna eventually run. Unfortunately, the server keeps locking up. And the way it locks up it looks like it's running, but no response to the keys, etc. So I have no idea what made it hang up. I've checked the event viewer, and there is nada in there, so I'm thinking it's hardware related. Anyway, I'm shutting the server down till I either figure out what was going on with it, or I replace the hardware. (It's got a known problem with the video card already. got kicked a while back and the connector on the back is loose...) My apologies to those players in game C. I want to run a server, but it'll be a while before anything permanent goes up. I know, I've been saying that for years now, but this time I ACTUALLY had one running for a bit. heh. I just gotta get some better hardware... [:D] |

Traitor, If the problem turnsout to not be the video card, then try totally uninstalling the TWGS and reinstalling it, but make sure you have your reg data to re reg it when you reinstall it, I had this same problem a while back on my server and checked all the same thimgs and video card and it still kept hanging up. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and the problem went away. Please post here and let me know how it went, and let others know so all can keep a look out for the same possible problem. Vulcan Vulcan, I think, might be on something. I think I remember having a problem where the program couldn't get key input. Since it was only one app that couldn't get it, I uninstall/reinstalled it. You see, Windows takes care of all IO for all programs. If only 1 is not functioning, it is the problem. If it was a video card problem, one thing you could do is try d'l the newest version of the driver from the company. But if it is old, best to get a newer one. Video cards don't affect the IO just the display, though. Ohhhh. Maybe a hardware conflict. That is easy enough to check. Click Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager. And on each device listed, right click the icon to get the options dropdown, and scroll down to Properties and left click. The Properties It will tell you if there is a conflict or not. And if it is the prob. definately get an upgraded card. Hope this helps. [Pause] - Delete messages? (Y/N) [N] |

Thanks for the support! Today I striped out all the hardware and found the DVD-RW power cable was loose. I tossed a can of air into everything, then reinstalled the cards and power. No visible cracks in the CPU and no scorch marks on any of the slots or cards. (cracks in the CPU ceramic shell can be really hard to figure out without eyeballing it. Seen it a few times when massively overclocking and cooling was an issue, but I'm not overclocking and my MB shows temps at acceptable levels with just one of the fans running. It'll flip on the other 3 if necessary, and I got good ventalation. Server also located in basement, which is about 65 deg year round.) Ran some HW diag software, and I think the memory and CPU are good, both passed the HW checks flawlessly. Bios is up to date. Video card replaced with older AGP card I had lying around. That leaves the NIC and the sound. Got a spare NIC, and I'll rip out the sound card if necessary. But I'm not seeing the usual problems associated with a bad NIC on the router. Anti-virus SW good, and when I booted off my AV cd, it found nothing. Spyware checks came up with nothing either. So, if it locks up again, I'll blow away twgs and reinstall. I don't really want to go through the pain of an OS reinstall. But it's been about a year since I blew the OS away, so it's probably due anyway. I just don't have time for that right now. |

Traitor, Taking the TWGS and uninstalling it and reinstalling it should fix the problem, but before doing that go into it from the program files after going into the local disk and make copies of your games, and store them in a folder and keep them there and then uninstall the TWGS and reinstall it, it should work then reinstall the games in their proper locations within the TWGS and it should be okay again, but reinstall one game at a time and check it to make sure it is running okay, then move to the next game and do the same. This is to make sure no game is corrupted, and if you find a game that is corrupted then take it back off the TWGS and go through the long hassle of remaking the game again, unless you made a TWA of the games, then just load the TWA of the bad game. Providing you made the TWA before the game went bad. Like I said I went through what you are going through and this is what got my TWGS back on line again. I really hope this helps you out Traitor!!!! Vulcan |

quote:Originally posted by Vulcan Traitor you figure out what was the problem yet? Well, it's been up for 4 days now, with no lockups. I'm gonna give it another week. I have the twgs running, but i'm not letting access to it through my firewall at the moment. I haven't rebanged the games yet either. I think it was either the video card, or it just needed a good cleaning/reseating. I'll find out for sure next week when I rebang the games, and open it up for people again. If it's stable for another week after that, then I'll decide if I want to keep it going. |
