We just bought a new house and will be moving across town in 30-45 days. Black Sun will have to go offline of course during all of this. The question for today is this: should I just let all the current games die and pull the plug for a while or shall I bang one big game to run before?

Hey, Vader is that for sure necessary, I don't know how much equipment you have, but I have moved servers before. How long do you think the server will be down? And couldn't we just go down where ever we are in a game and then come up at the new location in that same game [?]

It's your equipment, so totally up to you. I would think if you give plenty of notice beforehand and an esitmate of when it will be back would work for me. I guess that answer is basically do what you want, if you bang a game and the players know going in, a temporary stoppage would work.[B)]

Well, quite honestly, I'll be moving and keeping up a TW server and games is the least of my worries and it should be the least. So instead, I'm choosing to go offline until we have the house done and ready. Its all about priorities on this one. It shouldn't take more than a week though.

It seems a few people would like a game of chess maybe if you can get enough interest in it bang one last big game of dupe chess before you move.

how bout another draft game or a lotto game? if we can get all these WoW queers back into the game we can surely get a good big game going...

Man I would love to see a BYOC Dupe Chess game. Last tiem I played chess its was over at Coast Games. I would love to see the edits that Jerry hooked up, you know, you start with a planet, a set amount of figs, and cash, and Dupes were allowed man if I only knew then what I know now.

And the fact the server may go down for a bit doesnt matter that much, since any big major game may be over well before then, and just as long as the game didnt progress any, the server going down wouldnt matter much.

A week is not that long to let a game sit idle. However, I am sure that you don't want to feel pressured to get it back online at the same time.

My opinion: Elect someone to the duty of collecting all contact info of all players active and then have that person send out an email the day before games go back online. This way, everyone will have notice and things can pick up where left off. I would be willing to do that. I haven't played your server for awhile now, so it's a good excuse to come back. =)
