Has anybody here seen the other Gemini around Alienbase? I sawn him on a server I was checking out the other day and finally got to talk to him today. Say's he plays on alienbase alot. I used to play the odd game on alienbase, and never saw him around. Does anybody know how long there have been two Gemini's walking around? I'm debating wether to change my handle, or put him in a pod.

I've played with this other Gemini in a half-dozen games or so over the past few months on AlienBase. He hasn't been playing overly long and doesn't even have an EIS forum account yet, so getting a 'user exists' error when trying to create an account would not have occured in order to prompt a different handle.

Seeing as you, Gemini, had only 14 total posts under this handle since March '04 when you joined (clearly establishing ownership of the handle) you nevertheless have failed to make yourself known to new players who just periodically browse the forum. I contrast you to Slim Shady; can anyone even stop by this forum for a brief moment and NOT know who he is?

Since the only other way for a new player, not actively searching the forum, to know of the use of a handle is to happen on the same server as you (as has just occured after months of play) this sort of occurance seems rather likely. Afterall, there are how many servers active at the moment and you play on what percentage of them? Probably an insignificant number of the whole, and most likely where the more seasoned players hang out - the very place newer players are not likely to play.

If, instead you spoke with him politely and explained your case - that you have been playing a long while and are well known amongst older players (thereby demonstrating rights to the handle) - I'm sure he would have taken any means available to him to change his handle. If the sysop cannot change a players nick in a game (been a while since I've been in TEdit) there are always future games for him to use a new handle in. It is my experience that he is a reasonable sort and did not mean to try and usurp rights to the use of 'Gemini'.

This is a matter which really could, and in my opinion should have been handled privately.

Not so; The REAL Gemini (tm) clearly has rights to the handle as I understand it but, as mentioned above, there are other means of enforcing such rights. A public forum only when private means fail.

And ya Gemini is the sign of the twins so Gemini you got a twin out there somewhere I think you just fund him.

Everyone has probably come across a name similar or someone just posing as them. I used to go by zero, there were a couple of boards with the name being used on it so i went to oreZ, left the game for a bit before coming back and picking up the handle bnix. Most people are conisderate enough to give up the handle a more seasoned player has been using. And if they aren't they'll prolly leave the game of tradewars sooner rather than later.

suprisingly enough i've had Slim Shady since 98 and no on has disputed it with me... you'd think it would be more common. i guess no one appreciates good music anymore (haha)

thay just typed that like thats all you have to do, never filled out the formm sent it in and got the certificate, i even doubt "© 2000 Epic Interactive Strategy" is leagal and certificated! i had somthing Registerded, it was a bigdeal, all the paperwork, and that was only good in US & Canada!

I'd be up for a death match.

First and foremost, I wish to applogize for any confusion to those who I've played games with and/or against in the past and present.

Ok, second off I've logged onto a few other servers and not sure if I've seen another "Gemini" on any of them. Third off if "Gemini" had talked to me in private before msg'ing the forum about this issue, I'm sure we could have tried to talk to admin@Hubtoo about getting this straightened out, I would have been willing to change nicks if he had shown me he plays by this nick often. I look at this situation with the point of view, if someone beats me to the nick, I just pick another nick on that server. Just like one would do on Yahoo or MSN (i.e. Gemini is in use, I'll just grab Young Gemini and so on). I have trouble understanding his big fuss about someone on a server grabbing the nick before him. As far as on TW, I've only used this nick in a hand full of games at most, and most of those I only played for 1-3 days and decided I either didn't like the mods or that the game in general.

Anyways, I'm willing to follow the opinion of the majority of the community, so I present a vote to the whole group, if you guys vote for "Gemini" (Vote yes), I'll promise I'll never use "Gemini" in another TW game again, otherwise if you vote no, I'll be free to use the nick if its available. The votes will be tallied at midnight EST, 31 Jan using this servers timestamp.


P.S. Original reason I picked the nick was because I was born in early June and I understood when I picked it that it might be a common nick, I've learned to live with it and wish other's would.

i vote yes, a nick is a nick and some are more common than others. Someone who is active in the tradewars community has a right to the nickname. Most people use a nickname to identify themselves. I feel a person needs a unique nickname to identify themselves with. Gemini has identified with his, a common one but it's unique to him. It'de only be right for you to identify with a different nickname for your sake. It will individualize yourself.
