Considering the alien bug discussion recently, I'd figured I'd start a thread about what servers have what "rules" considering what they consider "bugs."

With the 3.13 release the photon bug, shield ride bug, etc have been fixed, but there may be others.

It would be nice to see sysops post what "tactics" or "bugs" they consider as "cheating" on their servers. As I stated I don't see the aliens dumpign products on planets as a "cheating" bug, but some do. I'm not going to debate the merit one way or the other, but it may help if sysops list what is "not allowed" on their server in terms of these kinds of issues so people know.

i welcome all forms of cheating and bug use at ... wait no i don't.
cheating and bug use, will result in a banning. but, only if it can be proved. as for planets in alien space... i don't see it as a bug really. it's lame. i've done it before, but i won't anymore, simply because it takes way too Darn long to move the product from one planet to the next. there are some things i dont like (such as planets starting with ore in unlims=infinite ore) but i will attempt to avoid those edits, and if they are requested, i will remove or severely limit the starting ore. (honestly, who would pop a planet for 100 ore? heh)not a bug, not cheating, just something that makes the game less fun IMO.

I think you mean the pause ride bug, and incidentally, it isn't fixed.

Jhereg I like this thread, I like to know what server considers cheating as well, so as not to either play there or follow their rules if I like the edits. The only rule I have, for my server, mainly is the Duping rule unless it is approved ahead on the server. But look at other places to play for myself, and have to follow their rules, at least til caught, just kidding, I don't consider the alien planet fill a bug either.

Great, good topic, thumbs up! you da man.
IMO its a bug, i found it nice for 2 players 1 in sector
other moving prod. and drain to LV4+ planet in same sec.

we found the planet we did not create it, we invaded and claimed
and as bonus, poped player going to his cheat spot.
and cashed the prod for a nice sum [:D]

OK - so what about this:

Logging in and out of a game to clear limpets or to drain q-cannons without using any turns - is this a bug?

At the very least it seems to be a cheezy exploit of a game design flaw.

The Alien Bug their talking about, If the one I've seen is Popping a planet in alien space, Aliens will claim it and load it with all 3 to the max, Also, I seen on one server, Make it a level 1 cit and they load ftrs too, = Free fighters, heh just don't collie it enough for level 2.
The ridin enemy planet thing, hmm I read about that some where, When u get podded invadin a planet, U get a pause, u seem to be on the planet, but the enemy see an escape pod warp out, they move their planet back home, u then hit the space for the pause and u know where their home is, or something Like that, I never tried that one.

So Slim, what you're saying is that it was the game designers intent that to accomplish some tasks you would need to log in and out multiple times? I find that hard to believe. I know it's common practice, but just because everyone drives 10 mph over the speed limit on the freeway doesn't mean it's not breaking the law. So who is it that determines what is and what is not a bug? Majority rule, individual sysops, or the game designers?

The game was intentionally designed so that entering the game was treated the same as entering the sector. This can be positive or negative. It allows you to more easily drain a cannon or a sector full of limpets, but it also means that if you enter the game over nav haz or an active cannon, you will be hit and possibly destroyed. While not all strategies were thought of when the game was designed, the way in which this particular thing functions is fully within realms of design specs, so not really a bug. You can of course try to lobby to have this changed, but I doubt you would be very successful.

photoning dock=bug
the dock is meant to be involitile.
it was intended so you can NOT shoot a torp into fed.
it was found out you could. that was a bug. it was fixed.
logging in=sector entry
thats how the game is meant to work.
it was intended that when you enter a sector, a limpit will attach.
it was intended that when you log in, it is sector entry.
so, logging in and out to clear limps, is not a bug.

I have thought about this one a bit and am still up in the air on my opinion.
Meag Rob was a bug, Twarp type 2 was a bug, and I’m sure there are other things in the game that were considered a bug at first but are now generally accepted as part of the game. I have never used the alien planet bug and I don’t think I would. Giving someone free product just does not seem right but when you look at it Mega Rob is just about the same thing both require some kind of work to set up, the use of turns to pull off, and are available to be used by any player in the game so who is to say that alien planet farming wouldn’t be a acceptable tactic in a game.
Or maybe I should count this as another reason why I don’t play games that have aliens in them.

I’m still kinda curious to see what more sysops have to say about it.
