I've heard some complain that elite players are bashing noobs out of games and making it hard for moderate players to survive.

I have a suggestion.

if you look at how most winning players play, the game should be called "trade and terrorizm" you have noobs trade, start building planets and BAM, get blown out of the game with no warning and with no provocation.

I suggest that corps should announce that they are going to take over someones planet, and possibly open up negotiations. maybe a cease-fire treaty or some other sort.

some of us like to play solo, but cannot build a planet without havein a corp come along and wipe us out completely.

I agree that the name of the game is trade wars, but you elite are killing off potential competition without giving them a chance.

Tater (re-learning the ways of tradewars)

yeah maybe some of the sysops should start banging more single member corp games for those of us who have a hard time finding others to corp with us, but i can see the other side too, a corp of 4 with 5 mil. fighters had better get that corp of 1 with 100K figs before its too late, after all it is war!

I think making certain RPG-esque things like this common practice in TW would be healthy. I don't think they ever will get implemented - TW play has most likely become too mercenary to allow it; but it wouldn't hurt :)

well tater, often in games i play if there is another corp i am playing against i often hire the solo newbs as informants :) heh. i dont invade them, i dont kill them, and put them under my personal protection and all they do is tell me if they see anything odd in the universe that i should know about :) also, if you would like to relearn twars i am more than willing to help whether in game or just answer questions, my ICQ is 207-107-486. i know bart is looking for a game for us to play, you are also more than willing to join and learn as well. i am one of the people who try to do my best to help the new people or the people coming back get into the game as it is played today. get ahold of me and we'll get you up to speed :)

all i ask of the people i help is to not cheat and not break rules. i helped a guy a week ago and get decided to dupe, again. i caught him duping, told him not to and helped him out, then saw him duping again on a twgs that specifically says dont dupe. that makes me look bad. please dont :)

I have another suggestion could we all sit around in a circle with some pink bunny slippers and sing row row row your boat. This is a war game. The object is to conquer and destroy.

I believe you will know I am coming to take over your planet when you see me hit your figs in your base. Or fire a photon at you.

WhaT you need to do is get with some of the other people playing. Lets say its you and 3 other people playing against the corp. You may not be as organised yet, but you may like the other people and form your own corp.

You can always look for some non corp games. Or if you want hit me up at demon6978@yahoo.com. Ill get with you and play a little.

heh, seems you havent come aross a bigger gun than you yet. ever think of apply this thinking in the real world?

cripes, tell me where the glory is in taking over a single players planets just to get less than what you would if you played without agression. you really think me being solo is a threat to you?

wonder how much better people would play if a)no duping and b) you only get to play once(pods yes, die no)

Tater you obviousally have not played against the really big guns either. I have had a corp of 3 been in a game for 1 day and had Angus come in and stom all of us down by himself.

Here is the thing tater. Lets say my corp has 5 planets and you have 3. My 5 are maxed collies and your 3 are maxed. Its just us in the game. THATS FINE. But then another corp comes in and starts building up. I dont want to have to worry about having to waste my corps resources taking your sector, which would make me weaker if the new corp decided to try to take mine.

And if you are playing an unlimited game you can bet that the game is not going to last that long anyway. So you have to get while the getting is good.

Or, why do I want to wait till you get a base with 5 L6 planets maxed in fuel ore, full of figs, and you defending when I could take you out early and not have to waste the resourceses.

Or, if your real smart you move 5 more planets in so you have 10 planets that I have to fight through.

Im not trying to get down on you, just saying that it kinda defeats the purpose of the game if we were all just going to sit around and twiddle our thumbs and wait for our gold to build up in the treasuries. Would you rather My corp come up and say hey we are 5 times bigger than you we want your planets, you know you will lose just put all your figs on a planet with no citadel and turn off all your cannons. I guess we could do that.

Matter of fact I am going to try that sometime. See if that gets me any further than just taking over a base.

tater, appearantly you are playing unlims. that is problem #1, unlims are short and aggressive. heh, and yes, being solo doesn't mean you aren't a threat. as Demon said, people like Angus are always a threat, heh. i've played with and against him in many games and the #1 thing i learned from him, is kill or be killed. (then gloat about it on ICQ, hehe) i think maybe you would like a turn game as it is less aggressive. or if you are determined to play in unlims, ICQ me, i'm sure ive got time for an unlim :)

arg! I need to use emoticons, just re-read my post and realized I sounded hostile :)

now, my thinking is, if you stumble upon someone elses home sector, why not *ask* if their intentions are hostile, rather thanstrike first? esp if you notice that it is owned by a solo player.

*sigh* I see that i am not eloquent enough to tactfully explain what I am trying to say :)

right now, I am playing 16 games, some fast, some slow. most I am progressing without too many problems (stumbling TWICE into the same ferrengi sector was my fault, honest) and my little empires are going quite niceley (muchfarther than when i played back in 92) and I just hope some hot blooded nightmare doesn't wipe me out(ever psycoanalyze any twar tips?)

For a lot of people, logging in, running colos or sdt, then logging out gets boring rather quickly. The attacking, invading, aggression is what is fun for them. These people want to come in and dominate a game, that's what's fun for them, not some role playing, build up empires game. It's tough on someone who wants to just sit by peacefully and watch life go by, but the best advice for you is get to where the people who want to run all over you are unable to. That is, increase your skill until you're competative with them instead of wanting them to take it easy on you.

I do agree with Slim on this one. Look for a nice turn game if you want a chance to build and dominate. There are some 20k games with 2500 turns out there. Those would be good for you. But, if you want to get some good experience at getting blown up or learning jump into a couple of those unlimited.

Only prob with an ynlimited is if you get sded and its not close to turn then you prob wont have anything left the next day to come back to.

I did take your post as hostile and I understand now you are just frustrated.

All else equal, a newer player would stand a better chance of "dominating" in an unlim than in a turn game.

if i join an unlim alone, he is dead. if i join a turn game alone. he lives much much much longer and has time to actually learn.

actually, am playing both types, and am holding my own (sometime by my fingernails) and learning.

heh, in the other forum another newb posted that he cant play without gettin toasted often. must not have swath.

anyway, another player offered to help, by having him join a training corp. that might help to become a good corpmate, but it doesn't always tech you everything(but it's a start)

the original suggestion was that players notify another player that they are going to invade, or notify them that if they honor a peace agreement, that you'll wax their butts, often :)

there are some old age games i am running in, with very little in the way of heavy handed competition(grid, planet drops, blockades) that i think would make great training games(as long as i get my bubble fully defeneded first!)

Tater,
Not to knock SWATH it is a great helper as a mater of fact I use it for data queries and macros all the time but its slow at killing figs on the grid and in a real competitive game it will get you killed over and over again. If you are serious about playing Tradewars I would look in to TWX proxy its much much faster and I have most of the scripts from scripter tavern archived somewhere if you wish I can give you a copy of the shareware scripts I have for twx.
As for the unwritten rule, in the real world yea you talk about it first but in Tradewars its kill or be killed and that just the way it is.
