Hello everyone, is trade wars dieing, or dose my server suck now? At any given time I use to have 5 people playing on my server, and as high as 10, now I rarely see anyone playing anymore, Mind you my server was down for awhile, when I moved, but what a decress in players... has any other sysop noticed this to, is there a decress in users, or are there to many servers now, hell could it be that my server sucks? I don't know if I should maintane my server or shut her down.. Warren Tyler http://thenight.ath.cx/ |

There seems to be a lull in play right now. Kinda like the boxing world, to many titles. We need a unificaton bout. hehehe but seriously there deosn't seem to be all that many peeps playing right now, I have noticed trends in activitly over the last couple years though. I wonder maybe if it has something to do with time of year?... |

Well there was the fiasco of the first bang of the Big Game that alot of people said they were through with the game. Schools are starting back up for the year. It is also getting close to Labor Day and alot of people are taking their final vacations or get aways. |

I always notice an increase in activity once the summer winds down. It always amazes me. I expect the game to just peter out, and it always seems to come back around again. There have also been major lulls that last a year or two, and then people come back around, or "rediscover it". I was away from TW myself for almost two years, so there hasn't been a sense that the game is still being supported. But it is. |

I think there are just too many servers out there for the amount of players playing. Cut that down and you'll see more activity on servers. |

I personally believe that the best way to run a server is to have a group of people you want to host the games for and not look for general public participation. More like being a DM for a game of D&D. You never know what you'll get when you invite the general public in to play your games. TW works best when there is a group of players who agree upon a particular set of rules within a game. The majority of servers out there run this way. Only a few servers are high profile and attract very active, tournament-style games. If you hope to open a server with the intention of becoming a hot-spot of TW games, that's hard to achieve. |

i personally havent seen your twgs posting rebangs or anything. if you post rebangs here about a week before rebangs and post the edits (try to make or download edits that people can agree to play and probably you will get people to show up) have like 1 or two low turn games, one stock, on edited, and maybe one or two edited high turn/unlim games and you should attract a fair amount of players (i suggest maybe next week sometime like wednesday or so as a few games banged just this weekend, give them time to end or be dominated and you should get a fair amount of people to join your games) if you have any questions about edits and many the variety that would be good, i am willing to help also, ya BG3 kind of caused us to lose alot of players but im guessing most will come back, if only for occasional tourney games. While I can't say for sure on your server, at a quick glance nothing jumped out at me that said "PLAY ME." In general I have found running maybe 3-4 games max is better for a server. Usually one unlim, one low turn, and one mid turn. And bang them staggered out, so as people leave one they can join another. Jhereg |

Well not sure on the style of games you are looking for. I joined the game that had an active player when I logged in. For an unlim 5 day bust clears are rough, and either it is a slow server, or commands per cycle seem low. Just my input so far. Jhereg |

I took the summer off and have just recently in games again getting my feet wet again. I am actually playing a game on Warrenty's server because it looked new to me and I wanted some place to play solo without a lot of people around. So far its a good server. I notice it goes down here and there for few, but it comes right back up. I noticed a lot of the edits in all the games look the same. (ship names, planet names) (just my first glance). I couldnt see which game to play due to the similarites. you may want to shake some things up or not offer so many games of the same style. (just my opinion). Thanks for hosting a server, I appriciate it. |

quote: John, did/do you play? Man, you like triggered a wave of memories with the meer mention of the game. I started playing around '79 or '80, and played through '87, my senior year of high school. I hung up my dice when my level 24 Grand Master of Flowers monk, Hergrom, lost his head to a level 20 Fighter "wandering monster" who just happened to be carrying a vorpal blade and rolled a natural 20 on his first attack. Clearly the DM had it in for me and my character that day. But looking back, I guess I can understand why. It was somewhat ridiculous that my monk could kill a dragon in a single turn with his quadruple damage backstab two-handed attack. I think I'd bent the rules about as far as they could go. Good times... |
