This is more a curiousity question. Why do so many people, especially newer players like unlims? What is it that draws people to unlimited games? It is that they can just run scripts? They don't need to worry about strategy with turns?
This is not to imply that there is anything wrong with unlim, or unlims don't breed skill (see Damage Unlimited). But I have notice a larger number of unlim games, as well as permas that are unlim only. It is more a question of why? In general, unlims tend to be shorter, is that way?

I'll weigh in on this one. I don't play a lot of unlims, but they can be fun sometimes. Things can happen quicker (planets/cash/product/figs) and the action plays out much quicker. Whereas, in a turn game, it may be a week before any real game movement takes place. Newer players, by and large, don't understand turn management and 800 turns can go real quickly when they are wasted. Plus, unlims often times have the better edits. Its easier to make unlim edits. It takes less thought to make a good unlim edit compared to a low turn edit.

heh, i got asked to come help some people in an unlim against some guy named Jhereg... twice, in two different unlims, heh. it seems some newb is using your name J
ill give my own .02
when i came back this last time, (march) i had to relearn everything i had forgot in the two years i was away. i joined whatever games i could find, hooked up with some old friends, but mostly went solo because i didnt have the ability to get a corp together easily or at all. so obviously me vs full corp in a low turn game, we can all see how that ends, but me vs a full corp in an unlim, well thats alot different, i CAN be competitive in an unlim without a full corp. (and often thats where i found angus anyway, heh. he taught me many things, first and foremost, how to kick Butt, heh) so in conclusion, i would assume most newbs join unlims rather than low turns for all the reasons vader listed, and because they can also be more competitive in an unlim rather than a low turn game because they havent played long enough to get a 200 person long icq list.. heh.
the end.
heh

What I don't understand is there are many people who play this game, and say they like or want to play in low turn games, but when someone bangs a low turn game, no one shows up. Sometimes I just think there is not a lot of interest in it.

low turn games u really need a corp to do well at (which is why some people think duping is good, and i can understand that) but thats why u play unlims, meet people, say, hey, a low turner is banging, lets go play that!

Lol, yah I do play unlims sometimes, usually when nothing good is going on with turns. I guess the question is more for all those people I see in unlims all the time. But also, perhaps they don't read these forums. In general, you are probably correct in much of what you guys said, action is fast in unlims, but often all I hear are complaints in an unlim. Because action is fast the game end fast and people complain because they die day 1 .
As slim often says, he is available for games, in general I am usually willing to play turns as I have time. Something else someone pointed out to me recently. Playing turns requires dedication, and teamwork. Many newer players don't often realize the time involved. I used to laugh when people told me low turn games took more time than unlims, over the last year I realize why now

Unlims are faster. You don't have to wait 2-3 weeks to have a base with millions in the bank. I personally like shorter games, but like to be able to have big bases. There fore unlimited turns fit well with me and my schdule. To compete in these days you have to be able to script, so therefore I have learned to compete by learning to script well and macro. I like strategy and all that as well, and you can play into unlim games with that at times to. (not always, but some.. depending on game type and compition). I hate paying attention to turn useage to. I'm also a paranoid trader and like to check for limpits a lot [:D]

Ya, things used to be different about 6 years ago. No offense to eis or the conception of twgs and don't get me wrong HVS versions all had bugs. But there were fewer games back then, and more competition per game, not to mention low turns didn't mean 2,000 turns heh it meant 400-600 turns or sometimes less . An unlimited turn game was unheard of back then heh.
But to get back to the point in general when a low turn game bangs i usually notice one of two things. The game gets little interest and is dominated by 2-3 solo evils. Or, the team gets a rush of one 4-5 size team getting a head start thus ending the game before it begins. Be nice if all these corps that prefer these type of games could get together and join a annually banged low turn game, but NOT labled as a tourney, cause we all know how many arguments those things cause anymore .

it happens sometimes. a low turn game will bang and one or two corps announce they will play, so then one or two more corps will join as well because they know a bunch of people will be playing there. doesnt happen often i admit, but it does happen. heh, those are the times i DO wish i was on a perma though, heh. tough to find a spot on a corp for low turn games when most corps just bring their permas. but o well, life goes on, heh. someday i will decide to join a perma or make one or something, then i wont have that problem.

Hmmm... Well I just put up my server again and out of all 3 games runnung the stock 5k sectors with defaults is the one with the most players so far. I like the unlimited game just to sit and play. I do script but when I sit down to play I like to play for awhile. Low turn games are fun but turns die fast Lower turn games I think are better suited for a more experienced players due to the fact that strategy plays a VERY big part of the turn usage.
