OK...I personally find the idea of bringing in a ton of people to moth for you stupid. The concept of a "mercenary" in TW is stupid. You are basically duping through someone else. So my question is this: Is "hiring mercenaries" to moth or dupe moth for you cheating? |

i think its bad form noone's ever used this 'tactic' against me, and i've never seen it used but 'if' it was a regular occurrence, and 'if' i was a sysop - i'd probably disallow it mainly because it lets the game de-evolve into a competition of who has the longer icq list, shrug |

I think its wrong to have people join the game just to moth/cash/colo. If a person was trying to invade someone else and paid other active players to moth, then that's fine. He has to give them figs and ships and a payment. But to get friends to join a game just for that sole purpose... it only shows how much you or your corp sucks. All depends on the edits. A game with 10mill ore max with 5/6 planets in the sector will take sometime. If there's 3-4 corps active, I see no big deal in 2 of them teaming up to take out the other... (That's what other countries do in the real world, but yet only 1 of those do all the Darn work! [:D]) |

I personally think it is wrong for more people than the max/corp to work together to achieve anything. If it becomes ok for multiple corps to share resources and jointly invade/attack, the game stops becoming one of strategy and instead becomes one of numbers. The team who can get the most people to play with them wins. A prime example of this is what happened in wtc 2001. It was a "no rules" tournament and resulted in eventually having 2 groups of 20+ players. While this made it somewhat even, the next year it was 1 group who came in with 20+ players and just smashed the other players before they could get started. Using the excuse that "the edits make it hard to invade with just one corp" is something of a cop out. If the edits make it impossible to invade, you should be playing different edits. |

This is the situation. My corp and I are in a long running game where it is kinda hard to invade, but not impossible. We have succesfully taken several sectors of maxed and loaded L6 planets. This other corp is pissed off at us and asks if we are going all out fighting, no excuses, no truces, whatever. So I say sure, so long as no cheating goes on like the dupe or mercenary mothing that they had pulled before. *One of their corpies got another player to make about 10 accounts and use them all to moth us.* And then they start this trash about not accepting MY standards on what is cheating or not. I think I speak for MOST everyone with any amount of skill and pride when I say that that is cheating and stooping to that only further defines ones suckiness. |

If the mothing is done by someone making "dupe" accounts in a game that does not allow dupes, it's simply plain cheating! If I go on my ICQ, call up about 10 people on the phone, or whatever, and have them come in the game for the sole purpose of Mothing, it's absolutely NOT cheating! Mothing, Mega Corping, Mass Resource sharing, spying, paying off weaker players as moles, etc, these are all time honored tactics in the game. See, this is what I was talking about in other posts. It's called "strategy." To me saying "it becomes a matter of who has a bigger ICQ list," is like saying "winning becomes a popularity contest." Winning a TWARS game using the "Moth for hire" strategy is an EXCELLENT strategy, and it is VERY honorable and I'll tell you why. Corp A comes in the game and starts killing everyone that moves on day one! They grid, they pop whoever hits their fighters, if they find a "little guy" they take him out. Meanwhile the leader of Corp B transfers them funds at the bank when he sees them in the game, let's him take out a few of his grid figs to trade, encourages them, fosters a feeling of well being with one goal in mind. Soon, he (or she) will have enough resources to challenge Corp A, all those that Corp A has stomped on the whole game will be GLAD to help Corp B Moth them to oblivion! It's just sound strategy is all. Don't want a bunch of small players coming into a game and mothing your planets? Stop smacking them all around on day one. If you don't, and they come back later and help Corp B take you out, don't try to say "oh that's not honorable!" I think it's more than just honorable, it's called "just desserts." |

if you were in this particular game, you should say so if you weren't - then this scenario you presented is largely irrelevant its kinda analogous to saying "if someone smacks you its OK to smack them, ergo, its always OK to beat the **** out of people" my take |

While the whole "team up and take down the big guy" thing sounds good in theory to the little guy, in practice, it really won't work out so well. The problem is, the big guy normally has more people who would be happy to come smack around some newbies who thought it was cool to win by strength of numbers. For example, if I asked, I could probably get at least 20-30 people (who all knew what they were doing) to come teach a group of mega-corpers a lesson. The only way you could beat that would be to try to find even more people to outway my numbers. It goes back and forth until unltimately one side has more numbers and wins. How is that strategy? |
