Well because of my sometimers i am not sure, but I remember when color TV was 2 colors Black and White, in second grade our computer was an abacus, Our phone was on a party line. And now everyone says the music i grew up with is the oldies. So the 386, with 2 floppy drives and no hard drive 1200 baud modem may give you a clue. log on play by hand with a 1 hr time limit. Ya know except for some of the music i dont miss much of the good ole days.
Can ya hear me now? nope no cell phones then heh.

When I grew up, color TV was only for rich people, we played outside most of the time no such thing as personal computers, much less "video games." There were no FM radio stations. You got three channels on TV, ABC, NBC, and CBS. (There was UHF stations too, but that was for rich people too).

The Beatles were "Hot" and Tom Jones was "cool."

Roller coasters were wooden!

In high school (11th grade) I did an oral report in which I predicted that some day all the televisions in the world would be hooked up to each other on a world wide link, and your television would also be a computer that would run your electricity, and your heat, and save you money, and you'd be able to talk over your televisions the way we talked on telephones back then, and that people would have carry around computers they could keep in their hand bags and brief cases, and computer programming would be taught in Elementary school.

Everyone laughed at me and said I was an idiot, and I read too much science fiction.

Heh.

Started playing twars in '89 using an 8088 with 300 baud on a phosphor trailing green screen monitor. Used the name Promethius back then and rarely used Enigma. Stopped playing around '91 - games were not intense with the competition being entirely local. Started back up mid 2003 on a server we put online running linux that was restricted to some local people.

Ventured out into Internet Twars around August/September and got my b*tt kicked hard - thought I was an ok player then, and found out rather quickly that there were some very good players out there. Hit a fig and died when someone warped in and attacked in the blink of an eye, and thought how the h*ll did he do that so fast -- he had to be lucky -- wrong. Found out much later that the person that killed me was one of the better players in Twars.

Well at least I know that I am not the only F.O.G. out here playing now. Although not as fluent as Promethius and I certainly didn't do a report like SGO. I started playing when I was stationed in Connecticut on shore duty... so that was between 1990 and 1992. Stopped when I went on sea duty started back again when I just retired from the navy here a little bit ago. Like Promethius though, when he warped in on me and hit me so fast it blew my socks off, I thought, yeah another scripter.... than after yaking, I realized, duh.... it is time to give into evolution and start at least using them instead of put putting (which I still do occasionally, and yes, generally end up getting whacked the most).

I did win the 1979 US Asteroids Tournament though!

Well, when I started playing TW only one person could be in the game at a time. It was a major adjustment when the Worldgroup version came out to have other players in the game at the same time, and you could even chat with each other!

The handle Paladyne was my longest-living character from my old AD&D game days, and its been so long since I've used any other handle that I can only remember one... my wife used to play once in a while as my corpmate, Heinous Overqueen, and I used that once in a while.

I've always played from Guam , started with a Commadore 64 on a 300 baud modem , later moved to an Amiga computer and finally had to move to a IBM clone.
This was back in the BBS days and I played @ funland.com and gumby.com
I've met many players at Eclipse and other servers and have been involved for many years .

I'm just so glad to see so many players coming back to it [:D]

I started playing so long ago i cant remember, and i dont really want to try. suffice to say it was single node, 300 baud system.

But i do remember one thing back then that i hated most. As i warped around the universe i would find players scattered about, but i didnt attack im. this worked well when i found a blue, but when i would run accross a red i would loose either or both, alignment and or
experiance for NOT killing the player.

But nothing will ever top the first time i twarped in my first ISS. It took me a few weeks of play to finally get that awesome ship.
Only to have a twarrior named Cyberkill capture it the next day : (

We have all experianced many ups and downs thru our collective playing, and those twarriors who are forever lost to us still cause a few of us to "give water to the dead"

My list of "lost" friends are as follows.

Saint, BenHur, Tipan, EatMe (Glenn Inslee), Cybernaught
DeathKnight, Whirlwind, FrozenSoul, MaximusRex

and lets never forget

Rave and Jackal

i am sure someone will remind me of a few i have forgotten, for that oversite i appologise.

...............END OF TRANSMISSION.
