Ok, I know I'm wierd replying to my own post but I'm in a hurry. It's been a long time since I posted here. Many of you remember me I'm sure, and you know that I rarely trash other systems. I'm making an exception here, but in keeping with forum guidelines I won't mention the name here. If you want to know what system this occurred on email me and I'll tell you. I recently found a system on the major Twars Links. It's a system that's been around for a while. There is definately editor cheating going on there. Here's how I know. The biggest ship in that universe is a Starship that has 1.8 offensive and 1.8 defensive odds. The planets in question hold 10 million ore, 10 million fighters, are an EARTH class, and make 1 to 1 figs. I stuck seven of these planets in one sector. The first planet had 4.5 million ore. The other six had around 6 million ore on them. They had 10 million fighters and 50k shields. In the sector I placed 58 million fighters, offensive. Photons are disabled so the offensive fighters combined with 50k to 60k quasar damage from each planet was more than enough to pod the biggest ship quite a few times. Two players who are friends of the Sysop and had been bragging they were untouchable, went into that sector and in one afternoon they completely took out the offensive figs and captured the planets without being podded even once. I ran a test on the Swath server recreating the planets and the ships. After nine attempts to enter that sector, I was podded nine times, and I still had 58 million sector figs left. I should mention, just prior to this invasion, the system in question was down for a while. When I emailed the sysop about this, he told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that there was nothing odd about the invasion. He then deleted my character and told me to stay away from his system. What do you all think about this? As I said, if you want to know the name of the system, email me. Sgo |

I think you were screwed man, and I don't think it's wrong for you to post the name just as long as it's in the right forum, and since this is the no holds barred trash talk forum, you can let us all know so we can avoid that board. I know they "paid for it" and all, but does that give a sysop the right the screw his players who put their time adn effort in to a game? No. So anyways, I'd like to know where this happened so I can add it to my list of sucky boards. |

I think it's good to make people aware of things like this. Do you have any logs? |

This is the sysop for the system in question. The server has it's full measure of problems since that last re-bang. None of them related to cheating that I can tell. The server software is running on an old Windows 98 computer of mine. I do the best I can to keep up with system problems and answering players concerns. In this case I have looked at everything in the game and could find no evidence of wrong doing on anyones part. I will admit I don't know every in and out of the software, however I could find no evidence in my server logs that idicated anyone was "hacking" or "backdooring" my system. I honestly do not have the time to play the game anymore, let alone run around and beef up players in the game. As for removing the player when he questioned me. He was not removed until he called me a cheater and said he was going to tell the whole world. He wants to make it sound as if I just removed him for questioning the invasions or me. That is plain BS. When it was all said and done all players involved were removed from that game. The two he says are my "buddies" were removed as well. Now I must admit I was suprized that, in his case, 58 mil figs or so set on offensive mode didn't knock someone out of the game for a day or at least pod them. Perhaps I missed a switch somewhere? Anyone know? I always assumed that all offenssive figs would attack up to the point the ship in question was destroyed provided there were enough figs. Anyone have any ideas? I assume the planets should attack first then whatever is left would be knocked out by the figs right? That's what I thought. It could be a system glitch I suppose. I'm not really sure eitherway. Now I haven't actually played the game in about 6 years or more as I have many more things to do in my day, unfortunately, than play. I would like to say to SGO if you are still angry about the whole thing then I am sorry. If you took offense to anything said or done by me with regard to this whole thing or the board in general, I'm sorry. My games are free to any and all who wish to play. There is no cheating allowed or tolerated in any of my games. Despite all this all the games have been re-banged as of today and I will be monitoring them as closely as I can to ensure no one cheats. That is the best I can do for the moment. Happy hunting, Brian |

Planets fire, thn figs attack, and no, they dont' always kill. That is determined by another frellin' formula. |

The sector figs attack with a certain percentage I believe, so it may be possible to go in there and not get podded. So several invasions attempts would wear them down without ever getting podded. Ive been in similar situations on a long gone server called Dragon's Lair....BUT....6 planets fireing into the sector?...(or was the sector blast even turned on...are you sure?) So how could you have stopped this? An IG on a planet or a cloaked ship and you woulda been plenty safe. Since photons were off. Correction...the sector figs did not attack with a certain percentage but rather they only took out a certain percentage of a ships defenses before stopping attacking. I don't know if this was some setting in twgs because that is the only server where I was ever able to pull off such an inasion. |

See I'm not sure. I was always under the impression that figs in a sector set to offensive mode would attack to the max required to at least pod if not kill the player. Offset of course by the ships defense ratio. Now I really don't know. I'll keep an eye on it this time as best I can. It just strikes me as weird. Anyway, thanks for the input guys. Brian |

No, Brian, you banned me BEFORE I EVER said you were a cheater. I sent you a warning to check the server for Trojans and your next mail said "you are banned and your character is deleted." Then I sent a letter saying "I smell a cheating sysop." I kept the entire mail thread! As for everything else, I'll tell you now, it doesn't matter WHAT random formula you use, and it doesn't matter WHAT percentage of figs attack be it 2 percent, 5 percent or 10 percent of 50 percent. 58 million figs set offensive is going to pod a ship with 300k figs and 12,000 shields. I ran this scenario through at the swath test server, I did it 38 times! Never once did I survive! Not to mention the planets had plenty of ore and were set to kill at least 9 times! I made captures of my tests at swath and your response was "I could care less about any tests you made at some other server." I've been playing this game for a long time. I ran this scenario past Big D, and several other seasoned players and they all agree something fishy went on there! Bottom line! SGO- Heinous Overlord! |

Now I really don't know. I'll keep an eye on it this time as best I can. It just strikes me as weird. Anyway, thanks for the input guys. Brian According to J. P. , the number of offensive fighters that attack can vary. They do not necessarily keep attacking until you are dead. However, I defy ANYONE to enter a sector flying a ship that carries 300k figs and 12,000 shields, has 1.8 offensive odds and 1.8 defensive odds, with 58 million offensive fighters in the sector, with seven planets containing 6 million plus ore, set at 2 or 3 percent sector and not get podded at least once. I attempted to do it 38 times, and never survived once! I don't know, I can write J.P. and ask him what he thinks, but I believe most of the experienced players already know the answer. Listen to me, I beta tested the Gold version for years, and I beta tested J.P.'s server when it came out. I was an owner of Twars.com, (The Infinity Project). I know this game inside and out and believe me when I say, there was NO WAY those two players (whoever they were), went in and took that sector without dying at least 9 times or more. Yet, I checked the logs, they didn't even get podded once! Let's ask the other seasoned players here. Hey, Big D, what do you think? Res Judicate? Space Ghost? Something was rotten on your server, and you shot the messenger, but that's ok, you've been hostile to me from day one when I showed up on your server and took control of all 4 games! No Problem, plenty of free servers out there. You are right, I didn't pay to play, but just because you run a free server doesn't give you the right to treat people who visit your site that way. You know, this is a small twars universe on the net! Word gets out. At this point I don't think too many people will be crying too hard if you pull your server down and find another hobby. J. Dean |

I attempted to do it 38 times, and never survived once! Strictly using math: person enters sector with that ship (1.8:1 odds) with 300k figs and 12k shields. (312k * 1.8 = 561k) 390k (1.25 * 312k) offensive figs attack at 1:1 odds 561k - 390k = 171k Since you dont specify the level of the citadels, i cannot assume they are L6s. So your 7 planets would have to do a total of 171k damage to pod the ship. Lets calculate what each percentage of the q-cannon does. 6M ore * .01 = 60000 60000 / 3 = 20k sector damage. So if each planet was set to 2% as you claim, they should be podded. However, if the total of all 7 planets did not exceed 8%, they could have survived the off figs and the cannons, retreated, restocked figs/shields (if you had 58M figs, there is no reason they could not have an equal or more) and repeated until all your figs were gone, and then slowly drained the cannons. But if they did that, you should have tons of pages of mail the next day, assuming you didnt skip it. That is just some logic put into the situation. It is not very hard to accidently turn cannons off. As someone once said: if you dont trust the sysop, dont play there. It is that simple. There are plenty of good twgs servers out there. |

You know what. You are right I didn't delete you for saying I was cheating. I stand corrected. I banned you after the follwoing e-mail you sent. quote:----- Original Message ----- From: Xxxxxxx Xxxx To: Trade Wars Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2004 7:45 PM Subject: Re: The Server you need to check your system for trojans! You are continually losing files, and data, and info and now this Someone has possibly created a back door port to your system!!! Or, you can keep calling me a cry baby, and keep telling me to piss off! As far as my supposed "anger" problem, I play the game that way. Yes, it is a game, and I play very aggressively. Dr. Evil broke a truce! That's why he got my messages telling him that I was going to take his planets! I play an agressive character. I could give a crap about this stupid game really, but you seem like a nice guy, if you didn't help them in the editor, I'm telling you now, someone slipped in through a back door. If people can log onto your system, they can hack in, fire wall or no! X. Xxxx The bolded section of the e-mail is what probably touched the nerve that set me about deleting your charecter. In retrospect I was a bit hostile to you when you first approached me with suggestions. No doubt I took it the wrong way when you critizied my server. Lets face it our first e-mail encounter was not great. I had no idea you were kidding until you told me while. All the while I was struggling to keep my server up online. I will freely admit that I probably could've handled you better from the beginning of our entire interaction with e-mail. Oh well hind sight is always 20/20. Well as I said in an early post on this same topic if I did over-react to your criticism of my server or to your suggestions I again appologize for that. Actually some of your earlier suggestions actually made it into changes in my recent re-bang. As far as the me going away. You need not , I'm not going anywhere. [:D] All the server troubles have been corrected and I upgraded to .57 yesterday, shut off some the delay controls and she is really cooking now. As for usership it is actually much higher than at any other point in my operation of the server for the last 5 years. It's great. Heck I need to say thanks to you for that. So "thanks J. Dean". I came here looking for updates and suggestions and actually to conduct a bit of an investigation into the whole offensive fig thing. I saw this topic and felt compelled to respond. I also realized that no matter what I said to you it would make no difference. As for other people they will believe whatever they choose. I can live with that as I know I did nothing wrong. Well except maybe the banning thing. It was why I decided to taper off on my reaction to AeSoo's acusation that I cheated, which he later admited he had no evidence of and not ban him for that. Although many of my current players said I should after they read the topic. Still the offensive fig thing bugged me. I thought maybe I hadn't set somethng right, or maybe there was a bug. I just didn't know. The best answer I could find was it was possible if your planets had been depleted or were actually not set as high as you thought. Even Baltar and Dr. Evil admited to me they were suprized they didn't get at least podded. In the end I just don't know and at this point it is mute. Anyway it didn't take long after all that for me to find the re-bang announcement section and announced mine. The registrations flowed in and I now have over 18 players in game A alone. While that may not be much to others, like I said above it is a boom time for my server. The loss of a few players would be sad, but will not cause me to drop offline. Neither will unfounded accusations of cheating. In summary, I'm not going anywhere, and neither is my server. Say what you want. As I said in AeSoo's topic about me cheating. I'm done justifying anything to you or anyone else. If you continue to be upset about the whole thing and post about that, it is now your problem. Any anger over this stupid crap died with the re-bang. Get over it and move on. I am. Okay. Next topic. MBBS gold settings for next re-bang![:D] |

Hmmm, I love your fancy formulas. I'm just a simple Aircraft Mechanic however, and I usually just do things in my head. Actually, I made a full capture of all the planets before I placed them. They were set at 3 percent sector. Yet, according to your argument, they could have survived at 2 percent. Let's see, a planet with 6 million ore set at 2 percent sector shoots EXACTLY 120,000 ore into the sector, (since 2 percent of 6 million is 120,000 for those who don't have a formula to figure it out). Sector quasars only do 1/3 the damage as the amount of ore they shoot. So that means a planet with 6 million ore shooting 2 percent sector is going to do roughly around 40,000 damage! Seven of these planets will do 280,000 damage! Now, when you consider the quasars will hit that ship first, and it only has 300k figs and 12,000 shields, you can count on very little being left of the figs when the quasars are done. Then, if 58 million offensive fighters can't finish the job, there's something wrong. Like I said, you say they can survive? Go try it on the Swath Test server, because you are seriously in error with all your fancy math formulas! I tried it.... 38 times. Didn't survive. In fact, I went in again and again, and died and after 9 poddings, I FINALLY survived long enough for the sector fighters to attack me. You simply do NOT know what you are talking about. Now on to what happened. They were all set for 3 percent sector! This means, except for the first planet which only had 4.5 million ore, the planets would be shooting around 180,000 ore, doing about 60,000 damage. Want proof? Oh, by the way, the quasars were on, the planets were set as a BLOCKADE in front of their gate! Here are captures of what these planets will do. I set up a test at Swath, and created identical planets, identical ships, and identical user names, which I used to assault the planets, here's the first three sector entries. As you can see, they didn't even survive the quasars. Here's what the planets looked like, sorry the captures don't fit in this forum screen. You have 64999 turns this Stardate.
