Hi All,

I have loved and played Trade Wars since the early 90's, and have always wanted to run my on TW server (BBS Dreams in those days), So now that I am out of school and making some $$$ I decided to set up a TW server. After 2 weeks, I have 3 regular players, and I think 2 of them might have left. So, Besides posting on here, I went all around the net to various game forums to find players, and was met with anti-spam flames, and got one player who thought it was too hard and gave up.. :-( I just feel really cheesy galoping around the universe by my lonesome.. you know!?!? ;-) So first off.. I just needed to vent, because I am sad that the turn out was so low, So thank you to all that read this far and listened to me.. Secondly, A question to all of you other TW players and Sysops.. I was just wandering how many players other games have, are others in the same sad shape as me? Were the real popular servers in the same boat at one time.. was it a slow build up.. Sort of a "If you build it, they will come thing". Lastly.. What is up with all of the multiplayer game players out there?? They all think that a game has to have awesome 3d graphics to be great.. There is so much more depth to TW than most of these other shoot-em-ups and RTS games, and even some online RPG's. Why does nobody know about us, or care about us?? Nobody even wants to give the game a shot once there here that it is mostly text based... What is wrong with them.. or conversly.. what is wrong with us?!? :-P

HI there, thanks for setting up a TWGS.

There are a few very popular systems in TW and a tons of new servers and tons of servers that dont get promoted enough to survive.

http://www.twgs.org is one of our main forums.
Well for lots of main stream tw'er.

You are welcome to post new server info there.
remember the main page on twgs.org is very slow on updates
so CLICK on the MESSAGES LINK...to see the posts....

As for getting players, that all depends on edits connection and promotion. Right now over 50 regulars are playing HHT, an annual TW TOURNAMENT.

Haunted Halloween Tournament.
http://www.booinc.com for news.

Any way good luck to you

Thanks for the site link, I will make sure to post there!! Two of my 2 week old banged games do not have any players yet, so it is like they are brand new! ;-) What kind of gold mods does everyone like? I was a big player waaay back before GOLD. What kind of GOLD mods do you guys like? I have created a bunch of new races with description, as well as Names and Ship names, and 3-4 new ships per race. You have to capture them though like with the ferrengi to be able to use them and figure out their power level and stuff, instead of retail ships.. ;-) I have not made any new planets yet, but people seem to like those alot so I think I will make some of those as well. I unfortunatley am not skilled enough to do some ANSI art of new ship though.. ;-) It was a big chore to add them in, but I should have all of my gold mods ready by next weekend. (hopefully) :-P

Just stay patient and keep plugging away. Right now is a tough time of year for playing for a lot of us. In time, if you make good games, the players will find you. And welcome back to the Universe...

Coastgames has been up for over 3.5 years and it took 2 years to get on the map so to speak. Some others get on quick. Although I never posted anywhere and my players were word of mouth. Just stick with it and they will come.

PS. Got to my site and submit a link and I will be happy to put it up. I get quite a few hits on my web pages.

Don't be discouraged too easily. As Res said, there are lots of new servers all the time. The ones that stay up all the time are the ones players end up at. Most of the new ones are down half the time, or shut down again after a few weeks. So, stick around, rebang the game every couple months, listen to player feedback for the settings, and you will grow a user base.
