User HAVOC IP 172.192.1.166, today as changes daily, over at Toadville was found to be duping in game B. He also goes by Thanatos. You are no longer welcome on the Toadville server and you have also been removed from any game you may have been in. |

Before he was banned did you ask him if he might have anothe family member playing on the same pc or roommate??? I know dupers are not takin lightly but i'm on a server where 2 newbie brother's play on the same pc... |

Yes, I believe proper etiquette would be to at least email or IM the person first. There are *tons* of players who play on the same network at home, work, or school, and I don't believe that they should be shunned as a true duper should. My husband and I have even had situations where a sysop has called us just to make sure that there were in fact two people here and not just one, which is absolutely fine. Just make sure to check it out first, the last thing you want to do is drive good players away without getting the facts first. [:D] |

[:D] I think if two people who share an IP want to play a game, they need to ok it with the sysop first. If they don't, getting banned is their own fault. |

Yes but normal procedure is to at least warn them or talk to them first. Not only is it polite, but it lets them know you are watching. I worked for Dell phone support and most people know nothing of ip addresses, mac addresses, or even where the start menu is. They might not know they are doing anything wrong. Also, they may not be familliar with league rules, or be regulars on the forums. |

Most servers have their rules clearly posted. If you don't know what a rule means, you should seek clarification before ever playing there. Now were it my server, I probably would have just banned the person in case it WAS a misunderstanding, they would have just had a short time out of the game and not have all of their work ruined. However, I stand firmly behind sysops who take measures to ensure a dupe free environment, even if it is complete removal like pestilence did. |

On a stand alone server, there is no account information created.. no email address, no phone number, nothing. All you have is an IP address and a logon name. Behind a BBS front, you have whatever the player(s) choose to provide you. As most servers are free, and have clear policies posted if you don't want to be banned, show some manners and clear it with the sysop *before* you start playing. We know you can read - you managed to read enough to find the board name or IP address. Try showing the sysops some courtesy when you are going to have multiple people from one household log on. Because I occasionally play from work and one of my co-workers is also a league player, I always drop the sysop an email that you may see us on at the same time with the same IP. It is called common courtesy... nothing more. The policy on Stardock Omega is to change the passwords on the offending accounts until you contact the sysop with a valid explanation. If you choose to create another account, I IP ban you, no further questions asked. Harsh, maybe... but I do try to be fair about it. Pagan Stardock Omega |
