No question about it, Sysops play on their own servers. And it is very unfair as you can ping very low locally, with no lag existance.

Some built-in game delays are specifically ignored for localhost connections, too. It isn't just an issue of ping.

If the SysOp is not using scripts though, does the lack of delays really matter? Are they really gaining an advantage over script players? Of course it would matter in a no script classic type game, but that is about it right?

What built in game delays would that be?

If you dont use ship delay, then lag for sysops is basically NON existant.

Well not all sysops play on their own servers. When I do get a chance to play, I use other peoples servers, I am still getting reaquainted to the game in its new playing style and still am learning new things. And like to play at other servers to learn something new. Just my .02 cents on it, don't judge us all by the actions of a few.
The only server I play on that is mine is my test server on my personal computer, which only I and a select few have the IP for. This is to test new edits I make to see if anyone will like them or not, and so far the players like the edits I already have made and play them, I even have some of the other sysops out there to ask for a copy of my edits, and gladly give them to the others, to me this is what it is all about, helping all sysops to have the games they can available to them.
So if you or any other person comes on to my online server and play and like the edits I have there then want a copy, Email me and I will gladly share them. I have some from others too that let me have a copy from their own, this is how sysops increase their collection on their servers, so when players get tired of playing the edits I have and want a change of pace, I have more to choose from. But they always get tested on my personal server before going on the main server I have online. And that server has a T1 connection, upgrading to a T3 in about a month or so. So the point is this, sometimes a server has a connection that makes it extremely fast and little to no lag, does this mean the sysop is playing on the server, no, if that is the case, then all the players on my server are the sysop!!! And that can't be possible, cause I have the only Remote connection to that server, which BTW is not even near my home, it is in Pittsburg, PA. I live in GA, I sent a rack server to my hosting company for them to put up on their setup, being it was the same type of server they use. And I might be upgrading it soon to a bigger HD and more ram too.
And to repeat, don't let the actions of a few sysops sour you on playing, not all of us play on our active servers. And I do monitor my server all the time. You just don't know when I monitor it, and at times I go in to see how the players are doing and to check with them to see if there are any problems with the server, game, or other players ( as in cheating)

If u don't like it goto a server that the sysop doesn't play on.. Most people that are running their own servers don't play on their own.. If u do play on one that the sysop is playing in, its your own fualt.. move.

Baited, I agree with you 100% on what you said, and hope people get it, thats what I keep telling them to do, like it or not there are some sysops that play on their servers and some of them do play fair, but it should be up to the players to say if he can participate in a game that has good game play. But for testing games I see no problem with a sysop playing, as long as it is announced as a test game. I take that away from my players server and use my personal server to play games to debug them before I put them on my online server. And I do invite players to the private server to help in the debugging of a game, and have had great participation in the past.
