Hmm.  I don't see that really working.  For one, it'd be nearly impossible to even set UP a grid, and I'm not sure that'd be a good thing.  For another, someone obstinate enough to set up single figs here and there could nearly make those figs a blockade.  Enter sector, attack with your 1 fig, and 50/50 chance you're retreating.  (In my experience, single fig attacks don't even take odds into account, so even if you gave ships 8:1 odds there'd be that 50/50 chance... I could be wrong but I've whittled away at the last couple figs of unmanned ships one fig at a time and not seen odds like I'd expect lots of times before, whereas 2 figs would blow it to smithereens.)

Now, how can I look at both sides of this issue and determine it this was a script making multiple passes, or someone attempting to be deliberate and clear a sector.
I don't want to ok war here.

You know, I play alot of Truce games.. I use to play them on UTW and there's only two occasions where I personally care about my 'base' sector Fig:  Twarp Col'n during a COL Race; and end-of-truce is imminent.
Keep it simple: use the Logs to determine hostilities... landing on another Corps planets appears in the log.. killing/cap'n appears in the Logs..  if I fuse while col'n because someone took out the sector figs, or my cashing script sends me into a Level 4 planet (be it NPC or not): C-est La Vie. take my Pod set my avoid and continue.. time is money.. if I pod again.. then guess what?  I'm now ore-who-re-boy...  it's really that simple.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: when Truce is over... move your Base. Duh!

Well, after investigation found out this sector wasn't in a Dead End or Tunnel as the rules specified, so it was not a valid base, and was a mute issue.  But the player couldn't wait for me to find out what was going on and CBY'd before I could rule on the subject.  Player just wanted me to ban the other players without finding the full truth.  But this is exactly why I look into the subject before I put a ban on a player.
This was attempt #1 at  a truce game.  I see rule changes in order and you're right LoneStar.  I almost have to use only stuff that appears in the logs.  In this case I saw no figs destroyed accept for what the player captured and sent me, and I have no proof that someone doesn't just type of a message and send it to me.
I think in the future I might just not require sector figs for bases, and say no powering up on planets with beacons in sector.
Still hashing this out in my head.  Input is still welcome.
Attempt #2 is tonight, with Shawshank Redemption Edits (Truce edition)

I don't like the way that you implied I might be a liar or that I might cheat by doctoring the caps. I don't need that kind of BS.

Also, you might think of looking up the definition of bubble on TW-Cabal.

Cerne, quit trying to put words in my mouth  I really don't need your BS either.  I spent hours yesterday working on your issue and trying to get the facts.  I never implied you lied, just said it would be possible to doctor the caps, and on top of that, I made sure to put "player" and not use your name, so that "player" would be protected.
Also the rule states bases go in dead ends or tunnels, not bubbles.  There were at least three adjoining sectors to your base, it can not be a dead end (with 1 sector adj) or a tunnel (with 2) Therefor your sector was NOT a base, and was in violation of the truce rules in it's self.
I'm not going to continue this conversation with you.  It's over!

This topic needs to be moved if one of the admin will help me out.  It's way off the bang topic.

Your words were: ~"How can I know you didn't doctor the caps, I am not saying you did but...." Or are you implying I am a liar again?

But maybe you think everyone would try to cheat if given a chance.

BTW, you may want to change "No hostile Actions" to "No hostile actions unless you can show that your script did it while you were AFK"

Cerne your a master at cloak and dagger arn't ya?  I almost said those words didn't I, but change the punctuation and the context a bit.  I wasn't accusing you, I simply stated that I don't have any hard proof to view other than captures that someone could even type out and send me.
You've asked me not to cross post, but well you brought this up from my board now didn't you.  Then you go back to my board and edit and remove your comment so I can't prove you wrong, so it's your word against mine, and I'm not really worried about it.

Report Sector 2764: Cerne is Attacking!
Report Sector 2764: Cerne destroyed 500000 of your fighters!

OMG! Ban him NOW!
Darn.. and I just bought those!
Yep, I guess they can indeed be typed and passed on to the sysop can't they.  I never said you did, I just said I couldn't rely on those caps as proof unless they came from maybe two seperate players.

Like I said, I'm wasting my time with you, and I'm done.  Quit trying to make yourself look stupid by attacking my character, and I'll quit defending myself.

Thanks Zen,  I'm not planning to humor Cerne any longer anyway, but I do feel the discussion on truce rules is a good topic.

Agreed, it's an excellent topic if we can keep our personal feelings out of it a little.

I think the "Freedom of movement" thing is a good rule, too. I don't think you can reasonably stop all poddings. The 1 fig per ship idea kindof becomes a problem when people buy figs around fed and dock, since 1 fig can't always kill another. But if you make it say, 100 figs... and put the limit on 1 fig per sector, then the problem might go away.

I think an easy solution to the base colonizing thing is to allow adjacent warps to also be figged. That expands it a bit, but there's no way a person can defend torping under and taking out your colo jp, that's purely intentional.

And yea, the log rule seems pretty common... but there are some things that don't appear in the logs. For instance if you invade a planet that has no figs on it, no invasion appears in the logs. Meanwhile the cannon blast would. So that could support someone saying they were pdropped, or it could support someone saying they were invaded... more info would be needed.

Allowing more than a single fighter for a "base" also allows a questionable tactic. Say I am red and the corp alignment is fairly low - hitting corp figs won't flip a red easily. I decide to build my own "base" and drop 5k pers defensive fighters to "protect" the base. Depending on my alignment, the other corp's red hits the figs and now he becomes a blue.

He won't become a blue if he's following truce rules and retreats off your base figs instead of attacking them.
All the arguments I've seen so far are circular.  This or that is bad about these truce rules because when attacking a base..........  Yep, you're right, if you break the rules there are consequences.  What about not breaking them?

True, IF the player retreats, but the public scripts I have seen don't do that - they just mow. I have used fig deployments too many times to flip reds in non-truce games. Run either Xides turboSST or SupG's wssm and you will see what I mean I love people who run these scripts in non-truce games. They turn blue, I get cash.

The one I use will hit over 200M depending on ping times and CPC (believe that is the abbreviation) and it won't hit fighters. In truce mode it will only kill 1 fig deployments. I didn't write the script, but was fortunate enough to have corped with the person who did off and on since I came back to TW.

A player can also just sit in a sector with his IG on holding a red and keeping him from cashing. Have to hope photons are active so your corpie (if you aren't a solo) can clear the IG and the person holding you isn't running an IG reset.

I've been caught by an IG and the solution was to pod the player that did it. Waiting on the sysOp to come address the problem and lose hours of cashing really isn't an option. Players can IG someone accidently when alien capping, but to do it continually in my opinion is a rule violation, and one that can't be proved.
