My earlier post regarding a ranking was directed towards a system that ranks individuals/corps based on wins vs. losses. There are only three possible outcomes in any particular game. Win, Lose or Tie. Based on these outcomes a “Rank” can be assigned.
This is as basic as a ranking system can be, and it only reflects your ability to win games. At no time was I insinuating that a system could be developed to accurately reflect player’s abilities.
Now, getting away from the “How” and moving to the “What” it does, is provide a measuring stick for all players as to how they would be performing. For instance, I happen to be chatting to a fellow trader over ICQ not to long ago who told me that he and his buddies have been winning all of their games. Which I don’t doubt, but I questioned the competition.
A Web based “League” backed by a data warehouse, would give us a neat summarized rank, recent win history, win %, average opponent rank, etc etc.
The possibilities to expand it are countless, including player reviews on abilities, majors held, Trade Wars awards, so on and so on.

No offense:
You have precisely defined the problem with TWLEAGUE rankings, discussed over several years. "player reviews on abilities, majors held, Trade Wars awards" - all of those are subjective. Essentially popularity contests, personal opinions.
K3 wrote that over time, players who consistently performed well in League games, even if they did not appear at the top of the "killer" or "red exp" list, they would eventually surface with "a high score".
That presupposes that the League be a Corp Game. It wasnt. We used team up as convenient, without personal rancor. Foe this month, corpie next game. How to rank that?
Peacemaker and Adomma were two of the best Reds ever. Cowboy a great Red , great solo. Rank them with League Rules? ugh.

Kav, You lost me sorry, I'm not sure I see the point you were trying to make with that last post? could you clarify?
Allow me to use a analogy.
Team A in the NFL has a winning record of 4-0. The Quarterback has rating of 86. The team is doing well, but as a individual player ranked amongst his respective peers he is average, even though they are unbeaten.
So player A with a high ranking would show that 100% of his wins have come through Corp B, however when not included in this corp his win % drops to 50%. And Solo he is has not won.

None of the above would tie into the ranking system, They would only be supplemental to it.
