 Re: B.O.T.E. 2008 In Planning
I would say BOTE is a time honored game and should be played the way it was intended. It wouldn't hurt to change the name and run a different tournament. Thats more than I've said in a game or forum in 10 plus years.

 Re: B.O.T.E. 2008 In Planning
You know, the funny thing is, I have like 8 or 10 players in game B right now, and can't get half that for a tournament advertised 2 months in advance. heh. Just too much controversy around tournament games.

Yeah what I think is funny is its easier for me to say hey honey I need to keep such and such a date open at such and such a time to play in a tourny, rather then hey baby btw you going to have to cook tonight instead of going to dinner and a movie because im playing a game, and btw I want steak and potato's and if you could bring them downstairs with a 6 pack that would be great. You can see how well that would work.

Its beyond ridiculous we're having an argument over something that isn't copywrited nor trademarked. Since neither are anywhere near TW what difference would it make to them? I have multiple edits out there that people have changed. I guess you guys can sue RP if he changes BOTE. That would give some people a good chuckle. Actually, it is trademarked. There are two types of Trademarks, registered, and unregistered. BOTE is an unregistered trademark, and the original users have all the rights to it, unless they give permission for it's use to someone else. This is Common Law (US, UK, Canada, NZ, Australia) and applies in all countries who's legal system is based on British Common Law.

LOL. FYI: With trademarks you have to continually protect them, as the name has been used w/o any attempts to protect it for years... they are no longer valid. You cannot selectively enforce trademarks. Also, unregistered trademarks are very difficult to enforce in the US.

I say someone try to enforce the trademark. I could use a good laugh.

RP, for someone who won't even bang an edit without the author's permission, your position seems unreasonable. Who wants to play in a tourney where the controversy starts with the host before the teams are signed up? IF you want to run a tourney and not just start crap, be reasonable about it and run a tourney without all the crap you have already started. As I recall you were asked to host last year, who asked you to host this year?

What about forgetting about the BOTE and trying to instead revive your WTC Tournament, it getting to be close to a year since your "crew" announced it... Really I would hate for you guys to pull another UTW. Seriously, how long has it been, heh, getting to be 3 years now since they made a big announcement and then quickly forgot about it?
For the name it would be protected under copyright so long as it is publicly displayed or advertised, such as on a website, (which is has been many times.) Though trademarks would only be applicable if they were lawfully registered with the federal government and kept alive.

The WTC is a Tourney that belongs to EleQ...I wouldn't presume to tell him what to do with it.... at least not publicly.

Make that TWC, after their "website" (the one that has since basically become one more place of game advertisement posting for Sage), I thought they were making their own tournament up or were they trying to run a WTC?
