Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
Just as a point of note.... I know the thread is fairly old, but i'm more than willing to admin a server if needed. My server is all but dead so it's not like i have other servers to worry about, and being a computer tech, I'm in front of a PC nearly 12 of 24 hours in a day, easy access.
I know most of you don't know me and therefore don't know if you can trust me, and that's fine. I ran a moderately popular server for a while and don't recall being accused of cheating (espically since I only played in one game and it was well documented i played there). I'm far too old to try and cheat in a game and would personally leave a game i knew allowed cheaters. It ruins all the fun.
Anyway, I've got time and ability to admin or help admin a server if needed.
As for the actual poll, I think there should be an official server, with a handfull of games running, and be the primary location for tournys.

Wow, 16 votes in about 3 months, absoultely amazing.
Really though what would be the point of opening a server up? other then for the purposes of selling the product, meaning to allow the interested person to view the product before purchase, or maybe even a test server that allows anybody to access the admin controls to experiment and lend tech assistance in the forms. That is about it though. It would be lame for daily games though, expect maybe for an annual EIS sponsored tournament, being one exception.

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
16 votes in 3 months is reflective upon the lack of releases in the past 4 years, IMO.
That's why I only visit every 6 months or so.
And I'm a licensed owner of TWGS. I really wish there was a new release, or something...
Even cooler would be a java front-end to this game, to give it a little bit more of a modern look and feel, without having to go crazy on the graphics.

JP is pretty silent re this issue. I wonder if we could start a new poll: Code: Do you think JP even cares? 1 - Sort Of 2 - Almost 3 - Maybe 4 - Kinda 5 - I have no opinion 6 - None of The Above

Truth be told it WASN'T a pipe dream. It was an actuality that was thwarted the same way everything else in TW is Thwarted Constant debate and complaining killed it.... So i was on the verge of opening the server and had several Sysops lined up to help run it when it was suggested that I was moving MUCH to fast and that EIS opening a Server "Could" divide the community further then it already was. Long story Short Unless JP does it on his own or point blank asks me (or someone else) to make it happen No matter the Vote it probably won't happen.

The reason this thread never went anywhere is because it was built from the roof down instead of from the ground up. The first step would have been to talk to JP and see exactly how interested he was in this idea. The second would be to ask around and see who would be interested in the sysop/gameop positions. The third would have been to decided exactly what type of server this would be, (test server, public games, tournaments, etc...) The final step would been to bring it to a vote in this forum, after all the ground work had been laid out. The way it turned out, there were too many questions and not enough answers.

Actually it was the lack of user interest that killed it. 3 months old and 16 votes... The user base as a whole is just not interested in the idea. Cerne

Re: Should EIS open an "Official" Server ???
Actually I read through the entire thread before I posted the steps. I see several posts asking who would run it and no direct reply to the answer was given. I also see several posts asking and some with opinions on what type of server it would be, there was no definite answer to that either. I'm not trying to get on your case SG, what's in the past is in the past, but you did ask us and most people were pretty cool with their opinions. I sort of liked the idea of an EIS ran server for script and beta testing, but without more conclusive information, I just couldn't give you a definite answer.

Everyone who expressed an intrest in being a sysop was contacted privatly...and im not worried about you getting on my case Big D.....I asked for opionons and i recieved them..and as i stated before im no longer intrested in it... let someone else worry about it...anyone except me is fine.
