drwakko,
You said it all right there, couldn't have said it better, if we are to keep the players interested we need to have the games available for all who like the particular type they play. And to stay on top of things so the players stay interested. as long as people are entertained and interested, they will stay around. Thats my .02 worth.

I recently got my registration info from john, and came back to check up on my past corp members, and im fixing to start a bang with 6 players, out of the blue, 7 total.
I think it really is to many servers, not enough players.
Everyone i seen is a sysop and has there own board, but it wont attract players honestly, if baronwood made his server again i'd be on that in a heart beat, but i dont really play outside my server.

well, *MOST* ops (the good ones) don't play on their own server, so, they therefore give other servers business. also, always remember "if you build it, they will come"
if the server is good, op is good, edits are fun, give people notice before bang, people WILL show up.

Well. this is my take on why the game is dying. Sorry if Got a bit long winded.
When I first came back to TW about 3 years ago th efirst site I found had a game with 2500 turns. That was more than twice the number or turns turns I was used to playing back in the BBS days so I played there for a while and had fun. the game had been running for quite while and had a few reguler players and was fun for a bone stock game. then I found some other turn games and played them. the first Unl games I tried I got killed almost instantly so I avoided thsoe. then I found a 7500 turn game with what seemed like a lot of edits at the time. I could play there all day and night and still not use up all my turns. it was on this game that one of the other players hooked me up with a copy of Twar and the cracks nd keyGen to go with it. (Yeah, I know. I'm a bad bad man. Bite me.) Since I had never used a helper before I thought it was great. In a turn bsed game like that it's really not all that bad. It's just dead assed slow compaired to what we used now. I could spend all day and night hunting aliens and building and life was good. About this time I found a web site that had a list of just about every back water server and game rebang you could think of. It really sucked when that web sight went down. I haven't found anything even remotely close to it since. I found some really nice places to play from that site and also quite a few places to avoid from that place. Now it seems that the only place to find a server is here in the rebang area. I dont' think the sysops on most of these little back water servers want the kinda players that hang out here on EIS simply because they dont' want to have to rebang their games every few days. I can't blame them. I've grown tired of starting a new game just to have to start over again after someone killed everyone in the game and didn't even bother to take over their stuff. As soon as everyone is dead, they block fed so anyone logging on gets blown up trying to get out of fedsapce. Big deal. you won a game simply because you kept other people from playing it. Tonya Harding tried something like that and you see how she turned out. It seems like people don't "play" the game anymore. they just run scrips and keep other people from playing. I got tired of it. When I dropped out last time, I was playing with a couple really good players on a good site and we won alot of games. I just got tired of the same thing over and over again. Every week it was the same thing. if the game lasted three days it was a marathon. I dont think that most of the players out there really want to play those kind of fast pased games. The games I liked the most had lots of really mean and nasty aliens to hunt or avoid. Most of the hard core players I've talked to hate those games because they keep getting killed by the Off figs the aliens leave all over the place. Thats great for me since I play blue, like to build and like to hunt aliens if their ships are worth selling. Most games are not set up that way. I think many people that post and read these forums see new players not as Potentual players but as temporary targets. We are normally the first killed in game simply to get us out of the way so they can hunt and kill the other big fish in the game. Why would I want to play on a server where I'm going to get killed the first day or if I do mannage to stay alive the game is just going to get rebanged again in a week? I've dropped out twice simpley because I couldn't find a quiet place to play. last place I played, the local bad Butt podded me. When I wipped out him and his partner and took everything they had, they never came back. I didn't even pillage their stuff after I invaded nd claimed everything. I just put up some figs and mines and left it so they could take it back. They never came back or tried. That game got boring after that because the aliens wernt' worth hunting. I dont' think that server is even up anymore. it seemed very dead at the time and the games had been running for months when I found it.
It's also nice to chat with other players once in a while over fed but no one seems to do that anymore unless they are talking a bunch of trash. who needs it.
Anyone know of any out of the way game servers let me know. I'll give them a shot.
this is just my take on why the game is dying. Mostly I think it's bacause of the Billy bad Butt wannabe script kiddies trying to kill anything that moves and seeing how fast they can get the game to rebang. second I think that it's just too hard to find a place to play that fits your playing style or lets you develop a style of play. The style of play on most of the servers listed here, to a newbie, nothing more than an meat grinder. Who wants to come back to that? Ot's bad enough that if you don't have a super fast cable connection your just a slow moving target to those who do.
I guess I've rambled enought for one night.

Bloodangel,
I agree that the way most unlimited games are setup they really hurt then game in general, most of us agree on that, that is why some of the better servers offer the turn games as well, the people who play the turn games are a different breed, and now that thinking is coming to some of the Unlimited games, now with the right settings and rules an unlimited game can be fun to players too and last longer than 3 to 5 days, to do this the sysop has to set some ground rules for the way to win these games, like the turn games have. I have an unlimited game on my server that my players like pretty well, it has an added alien race that even the Ferrengi are afraid of, they are powerful and haave very powerful ships, but because of their toughness I had to tone them down a little to give my players a chance. To get these aliens you won't be blue for a long time.
The rules to win this game are simple, you have to capture the three Paradise Planets to win, this is not an easy task at times, it requires you to have one or more of the ships that you have to get from this powerful alien race, as the Planets are tough to get too.
If this sounds like you would like this game style, then check it out, cause the only way to win this game is the way I stated and not kill off everyone, you have to build to get what you need to win and sometimes you have to cooperate eith other players to get the resources, the rule to win this game and a couple of others are posted on the description page on the TWGS, so when new people go into the server it is advised to read this first, to know what they are getting into. So far I have had a very good turn out for my games, and no one acts Billy B. A. on the games, except one, who another player helped to get up enough, to be able to get the planets then he decided to try to kill off the player who helped him in that game, only to find he lost everything, cause the other player was better. That other player was just following the rules to win and when provoked he ended the fight. And I DO WATCH for cheating and Duping on my server to promote fair play. So if you or anyone else would like a place to play that hasn't had the B. A. players playing and locking out players, then try my site.
But in general it is most unlimited games and some of the B.A. players, but not all, who make it not fun for the newb's. There are still some of the really best players out there who still help out the newb's and they know who they are and I pay them the respect they deserve here as well.
I will be rebanging this particular game A and game B soon, so the new players who want in on these games will have a fresh game. Now to post this in the rebamng section, I know this is not for here Harley, sorry.
Sorry so long winded this time guys.

I can't believe soo many Darn people can same the exact thing over and over and over and over and over again... Geez... And the same response "Don't play unlim" , "Dont play unlim", "Dont play unlim"...
Who wants to wait a month to have their asses handed to them. Make it happen now please. You guys just need to tool up and educate yourselves in strategy. Twars is strategy. Scripts are ++++ to the game.
Nothing like countless hours of P...T...200...18271...18200...18150...
blah. I'd rather j*** off w/barb wire.. (well not really)
Learn a strategy that works. If ppl were nice enough to lay down toll figs for late start/new.. then PAY THE Darn TOLL!!! (I popped a vein)
The guy that posted baout someone had sucked collies etc... Sounds like he just lacked a competetive edge. 3 planets w/collies and figs... You should have cashed instead of colo.. Buy figs photon pwarp invade crush destroy mangle pillage plunder...
I must get a fresca... I'm too excited.. Anyways.
Tonya harding should have just did a better job of blockading... thats her fault... no mines or limpets or nutthin... geez.. bad example.
I guess I forgot what else I read. Darn fedcomm chit chat...

LOL Lucky,
If you read my input I didn't tell them to not to play unlim games just to find one that is right for the mentality that they want to play, personally I like the unlim games, whether they go fast or whether they have rules its all the same to me, I like to variate my playing habits to include all ideas on the unlimiteds. I put what I do on my srver because it is what players there like, go figure, me I like to have fun and go at it when I can. and sometimes I like the large to low turn games too when they have good edits.
All I am saying if you like unlimiteds but don't like having your butt handed to you then find an unlimited that might have some sort of standard set like the turn games have, if that is your cup of tea. Mine is what ever I can get into and do my best and if I get my butt handed to me, so what, I go and try again! Sooner or later I will hand the other persons butt to them.

Vulc I wasn't just replying to you, to the whole thread. These guys complaining about getting podded in unlims and such. Just wearing me out with... My optical nerves are about to rupture with the protrustion of pain this is causing me... (huff huff huff)
To each their own and stuff, but if you spend 10 minutes looking for info on TW you will find ppl get killed in Unlims. (when I say you I mean you as in global populous)
They posted about wanting the miss the old games w/turns. Every server has turns games. I just don't get it...
I usually won't pod somebody first in if they pay the friggin toll. But have and have been... With the dozens of servers out there geez...
if my parole officer only knew........

I hear ya Lucky,
All they all have to do is READ then it will be CLEAR to them that there are games out there for them.I guess some people are harder to teach new tricks than old dogs, not directed to you. Just some of the people just don't listen.
same with my parole officer lol....

I think they should cut down on the amount of servers , that would make it better but i think TradeWars is here to stay , and like Godzilla said , i feel a second wind a blowin.
Cheers
