 Re: Locked Topics
I consider smack to be on three levels as follows: 1) The Game Smack - players talking trash to each other about a game they are in. Example: "You destroyed my ships! I'm gonna hunt you down and kill you, fool!" Game smacks are part of the game itself. As long as there are no personal attacks, I see nothing wrong with game smacks. 2) The Joke Smack - People joking around with other and teasing each other, all in good fun. Example: "I have not seen smack talk like that since I was in pre school." "Was that like a couple years ago? " Some joke smacks might go a bit too far, but for the most part, it is mostly about kidding around with each other. Nothing wrong with that either. 3) Insult Smack - Now this is what mods should keep an eye on. Things can get out of hand quickly if smack talk reach the Insult Smack level. A personal attack on a person or his cred/rep is a good example of an insult smack and definitely should not be tolerated by a mod. Thoughts?

 Re: Locked Topics
For the most part I agree with you Timberwolf. Thats almost exactly how I like to see it. It doesn't ALWAYS work out that way when your trying to mod a conversation because of the constant baiting and teasing. It just gets old after a few pages.
Shrug..

 Re: Locked Topics
Smack talk is fine and can be fun, but it should be in a forum that visitors can not read. Vulgar language/vulgar pictures, racism, and real life threats have no place in any forum. Those are the only reason's anyone gets banned from Hyperspace Forum.

I think the funniest part about the 3 threads that got locked is that they had already "cooled-off" and had not had any posts in them for a couple of days, then you locked them, which opened up this topic. This is a game about fighting and strategy, and a good deal of strategy is build around trying to get your opponent agitated enough to do something stupid, like fuse a loaded ship, or photon one of their own. AND of course we have a lot of passion about the development of this game, and that has been at the topic of many heated debates here. Here's a suggestion, the next time this happens, and it will happen... let the thread go, but put offending posters in "time-out". First offense, ban them for 3 days, then a week, then two... The idea of locking a thread just because the conversation evolved in Open Dissuasion is just silly. And yes, I agree... good Mobby! You get a Mobby snack

 Re: Locked Topics
Thanks Cruncher. What's done is done, I will not change the topics I've locked but Ill try not to "punish" everyone for a few making bad choices in the future. I spent a good amount of time having to read through 13 pages of good convo and smack. After that I just decided to lock topics that had reports and the sight of smack. It got old after the first 4 pages.
LOL Mobby not perfect. Give Mobby a break please....snacks welcome too...
Thanks again guys for understanding...

 Re: Locked Topics
I will not lock topics for straying. As long as people can carry on a civil conversation, I don't care that the topic heading reads QCannon settings, but has somehow transmogrified into a discussion of Salad dressing. As long as people aren't called paedos for liking Italian, it's OK with me. Comet, your account given a temporary ban, and was set to expire 7 days from the time it was enacted. I don't care for smack, but people need a place to have words, and it seems a good a place as any. However, getting around word filters is a no-no.
I am sorry that mob had to come across as the bad guy- he is not, he is did the same thing that I would have done, only he got to it before I did. My apologies to him, and if anyone has a problem with it, take it up with me.

Mob is not a bad guy, neither are you. You both are doing great jobs! Keep up the good work! (I like your QCannons to salad dressing analogy.)
