LoneStar wrote: Has anyone ever considered having an elimination style tournament, with 2 corps/game, and 2 or more games running on a server at same time.. with this point system in effect you could even put a 2wk limit on the games, and have a real playoff happening. Sure would cure the mega-corp-blues, and prob add alot of excitment when the two final teams square off. Don't even need to change the edit..
Maybe it's just me, but the more I think on this idea, the more I like it i ran a revstock ladder for a while there. the problem i ran into was finding enough teams to fill out the ladder. you need 8 teams for a 3-deep ladder, 16 for 4-deep. in the end i had to make the teams very small, 3-4 players, and i had to do wildcard teams that got to play again even though they lost - and it was hard to be fair. like you say, the concept is great, but i found the execution difficult and it exposed me to unwanted criticism all along the way.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
It seems that several of the players I've contacted to play won't play because of the time limit. Well, I am going to still try to put a corp together if nothing else to show people that I am versitile enough to play any edit whether it be low turn, high turn, unlimited time, or little time.

Laff if they NEED unlimited time to play Tradewars and be competitve..It Probably means that their only real advantage in the game IS they have a large amount of "At Keys Time" It doesnt surprise me Big D, A LOT of Todays players dont't have the intelligence to win a game that ReQuires actual thinking and Strategy Not Just " Superior At Key Time " ...I Doubt these players are anywhere near the "Best" in the game though. To be the best you can be competive in any setting.
This Invitational is meant to Poke Holes into Some of Todays Strategies... A Time Limit pokes a lot of Holes into most of todays strategies...

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
I'm of a different mind on time limits. It's fine if that's a strategy you like, but from my experience you can poke a lot of holes in a TL game using clever monitoring scripts unless the TL is very small and the penalty is fairly high.
From my experience most TL games favor scripters because of that. One of my first real wins in a game was in a 5 hr TL game where I wrote a TL monitor and patched it into a pdropper. Of course that was years back, techniques have improved, but the edge is still there to be sure.
Not trying to cast a negative or anything tho. I hope the turny goes well and I'm happy to do what I can to help it along.

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
Playing red mostly, time limits have little effect on me...get in and cash then log out....they do make the game some what more challenging in a logistics way though....getting corp together to run turns or buy downs, also gridding with a saveme.
I think with a six man team this should be no hard feat if you recruit diehard Twar players....So i will see you guys in the game...I will be the one with the real high negative alignment....I have a couple of players interested...just looking for a good ceo and some good hunter/killers now....
ps....would be nice to no where this gaame is going to be played... for a real challenge...Vids server would add an extra spice to it and level the field as in ping times.

Wow pig..it's been a little while since me and you agreed on something...I seriously considered Vid'sserver as a host (though i never approached him) because since is server is in guam ping times would be practically universally slower. BUT since this is the FIRTS Eis "Invitational" I thought it would be important for EIS to supply the Host...Speaking of which that will be announced very soon and a practice game will be put into place no later then a week or so from now. see you in the game bro!

 Re: EIS Server Invitational
Some comments, after going through some of the in game stuff..
Overall, I like the settings a lot. The ships are almost all going to be very useful. People will have a lot of decisions to make about which ships to purchase, depending on their role (there isnt one "killer ship that does every task in the game").
Same goes with the planets, I have not been able to create a class O, but i like the others ones.
A quick little thing I noticed- The former class K planet, now called a "product factory" is incorrectly shown as class M (along with the class M equipment factory)

UTW will be entering a team. We already have 4 players on the team and have room for 2 more. Contact me at http://www.Ultimatetw@gmail.com or ICQ 268-207-588 if you have an interest in playing. Team Name and Player Names are still being discussed and will be supplied at a later time. Sage
