BTW - sometimes noobs blow themselves up.
In game not long ago noob went boom and then his pod got locked up between one of our toll figs in a one way and one of our defensive figs. He couldn't shoot his way out and his script was set to pay tolls. We collected nearly a $million credits before he came back to his computer and did the honorable thing.
If he hadn't been afk with script hitting our figs, i woulda gladly grabbed him and drug him to fed space. As it is, he lost all his credits.

In this game I put my IG on at one of the class 0 ports and trapped a player there. One of the aggressive aliens took care of him for me.

Oso, you ever kill anyone who could fight back? You know a veteran.

LOL @ "not defending the grid as actively as you should've."
Active grid defense means killing gridders.
Many people feign being newbs to get a foothold. You never really can trust people in a lockdown. You've gotta kill them where you can or risk giving up the game.
Personally, I'm an equal opportunity killer. Touch the grid and you risk dying. Them's the rules. If new players would respect them they wouldn't run into a fig wave.
Most "newbs" are not going to just peacefully drop their figs to wait for a tow.

What proton "might" have done.
Tell the guy, this game is in lockdown. It will hopefully be banged soon, try again then.
Please don't touch my grid, this is why I'm hunting you.
If you touch my grid, I will have to kill you.
Try scanning manually so you can see where the grid is before you hit it.
Colos are first come first serve in most games. You get them from the start, not weeks into an existing game.
Point him where to look for new games, tradewars academy, (and protons new getting started forum)
Blow up the player after he hasn't listened, and touched my grid

note to sysops : consider closing a game to new players after a certain point to cut down on the late arriving newbs.

Look at the title of the thread. Just the fact you feel you must defend your behavior makes that very behavior suspect. I mean Oso, you are the new co-sysop for Outpost-4 OCS, the person to whom the n00b should be coming to for help. Yet here you are trying to justify a questionable behavior.
I am NOT saying don't kill to protect the grid, sector, planets whatever. I am saying lets stop trying to justify a behavior that is questionable at best.

I am saying quit killing n00bs because they are so new they don't have any idea whats going on and trying to justify it. Look at your example... You should have killed the n00b from the start but because you didn't you lost half your grid. That was one dangerous n00b alright and no it couldn't have anything to do with your being offline or the fact that the other players in the game are in it the game with the same goals as yourself. And that Darn n00b (and those other players), making you actually play the game....
I feel I may need to point something out. Although Oso is the newly co-sysop of OP4 TWA server, that does not mean he has to be the "nice guy" everywhere else. His responsibilities do not include giving people a break when he plays outside the TWA. I do not expect him to have to alter his play style to please whomever just because he is part of the TWA. When he assists here, he does what he needs to do. Outside of that, he is just a player, like myself when I play on other servers.
As the owner and SysOp, might I suggest you not try to drag my project into your dispute.

As just another player, I humbly apologize. I thought I was stating the obvious, not dragging your project into this. Again I am very sorry.

I made this topic because of previous comments some people have made that link killing noobs to clubbing baby seals. Killing noobs is not "suspect behavior". Letting them live and kill your grid is! Since when is it questionable to kill people in tradewars? Should I have them take an online test to measure their level of competency before I pod them? Or should they be left alone because of their fallacious fed rants or halfwit hails?
Thank you Thrawn. Yes I do help noobs, even on other servers. But I have a responsibility to my corp to make sure that we win the game. That is my first loyalty. My loyalty then goes to my friends in other corps, and so on until I reach the noob. If helping him won't go against other commitments, fine. If it does, then at least he can't complain when he's #SD#.
Killing noobs is NOT like clubbing baby seals. It's a very sad but very necessary part of the game. If noobs get in the way, they won't be around very long. Like Prom said to Redknight- you're not going to want to be in that game. Same thing goes for noobs. Look at the amt of players, figs, planets, and age. Are you sure you want to stick your nose into that???

Look at your fedcomm example, yes it is like clubbing baby seals. That guy had no clue and no way to get one.

You just proved my point. Killing them is part of playing the game. Letting them live is the thin end of the wedge!
If I leave the door open, someone will want to sneak in.
Now why should I allow that?
I'm not TW's Mother Teresa or St Francis of Assisi...

The way he talked? LOL
He was begging to be podded, both literally and figuratively.
He wanted something, and I was not willing nor able to give it to him. Eventually he settled on wanting something I was able to provide him- a swift pod.
And yes, he did say he had a clue. Read again.

Dude, I am not saying don't kill threats, I am saying quit trying to justify whacking the helpless.
I, for example, kill anything that moves if I can hit it. I don't care what their level of play happens to be. But I do think there is a line between playing to win and bullying new players that dont have a clue.
