While it would be theoretically possible, it would be very difficult to balance. Not to mention it would require identical settings and edits on both servers to avoid issues. e.g. If you transfer from a 1000 turn game to a 500 turn game, what happens? Does your current turn count halve, and then double going back the other direction, or what?

I think for that particular idea, the technical aspects would be easy next to the more mundane concerns.

The better the player you become the less amount of turns you will prefer in your games.

I can spend all day just using 1000 turns anything past that starts to be less of a challenge and more like an unlim.

Xen, it was just a passing thought, you know like some games you play at the arcade when you beat one level you advance to the next, that was what I was meaning about the server link ups. As a player gets better he levels up to the next server for its challenge and so forth, and even I said it may be more of a headache than it is worth, but think of the possibilities there could be if we could make it happen, we could have true server wars and competitions back and forth without having to log off one server and go over to the next one and log on and play, we just make it to a jump point and crossover to the next server and play.[?]

I'll be rebanging my "Disadvantage" edit probably on Friday the 12th. It's unlim, and designed to slow down early cash production extend the window of time it takes to dominate the game. You can check it out now if you like, but it's about a month in and pretty well locked up by Corp 7 at this point.

Speed, You make a good point. I've noticed that as I slowly get better,
I tend to like smaller turn games. It takes a different mindset to think
in advance about what you need to do so you don't waste turns or fuel.

Heh let me start a flamewar.
I suck at this game and I can probably find a million people that will agree.

Unlims w/o a time limit are boring, yes I play them and it shows. but IMHO with a time limit you can time it so you can get on when your opponent is not at keys. This game is so old that there aren't any "new" strategy's out there. We all know the strategies that work (now I am opening the flamewar can of worms).

TW-Cabal says not to park on planet unless it is sheilded. I am going to don my asbestos suit and prepare for the flames.
It is in my opinion that if people follow the conventional wisdom and not park their money on a cit are only losing the interest currently 2%/day but
it is also compounded I think per second so if you have the resources and blue that runs a script that says anytime a fig hit is with X hops grab the cash and runs, you are going to be better off than someone just keeping their cash on a taxed blue.
We all work for our money and these figures are off the top of my head but
for every minute you leave even 5M in the cit you are earning probably 1.5 credits/second (computed by 5M*.02*86400) this is a rough estimate that doesn't even take into the fact of compounding.
so if you consider a fig costs about 100 credits you will get the equilavent of one about 40-45 seconds. If you want to go against the conventional wisdom of not putting cash on a cit you're depriving your corp of "free" figs (well not really free but as free as you can get in TW)

I have not done any scenerios that can prove my hypothesis one way or another but the math is somewhat proveable.

So I guess what I am trying to say is conventional wisdom is not always the best path to follow, is there a risk that someone will grid near by and photon your planet yes but how much time elapsed while that money was in the cit? Is the risk worth the return. You leets decide whether a newbie has an idea that should be looked into.

p.s.
I don't know how often TW updates cash in cits but I see that if I deposit X amount and then press enter I have more than I put in.

This post will self destruct in 5 seconds unless Banacek decides that Columbo was secretly dating Mr. T who had a crush on MyGuyver, who is really Mr. GreenJeans in another life.

Red turns and blue support turns = cash so no its not a good idea to park these players in a citadel that’s not shielded one photon could cost you a whole day of cashing and now days with a turn bank it could cost you more then that.

I have keep cash on an unshielded plant but usually just enough to buy photons after the planet went l4.

The amount of cash you earn off interest in not enough to risk loosing all of your cash before the planet goes mobile.

You should not be banking more cash then what you need to support your team and enough to start your reds back to cashing the next day the rest should be spent on fighters soon after your done cashing.

if you have 5M credits and don't have a mobile.
(assuming your cashing is well, ships are full, etc)
you need to do one of a few things (or more than one)
1)decide if you want to defend your planet(s), if so, buy up figs
2)decide if you want to be aggressive, if so, buy figs
3)probe/grid till u get 100% explored

now if somehow you have 95% of figs (and it is over 100k in the universe) you may feel safe with your current figs, and if you magically have 100% explored, well, then you don't need to probe (or do you?)

now you have 5M credits, at 2% a day.
1% or 1/100 or 5,000,000 is 50,000. double that and you are making 100k credits a day (approx) with your 5M in the cit.
you can use those credits aggressively and more than likely cause alot more than 100k (credits worth) of damage onto another corp.

im not going to get into details of the things you can do, but there are countless countless things you can spend it on that are better than sitting in the cit.
i believe on the cabal it says something like:
if you have X amount of cash, you can make Y amount in a cit.
sure, thats a lot of money, but if you have X amount to start with, why isn't the game over already?

think about it

heh, there are a lot of reasons to keep cash on hand instead of figs. But lets assume you keep cash, and this 5m that maniac talks about. If you keep it in a citadel for 24 hours, you make 100k credits off of it. The average price of a fig is 200 credits. That means if you put your money on a planet for 24 hours, you can buy 500 figs that you wouldn't otherwise have. Is 500 figs worth risking a photon and a death? I personally don't think so. 100k credits is like 7 turns worth of cashing. Saving 7 turns to risk 5 million credits, a photon, and a death are not at all worth it in my book.

The unlim game I mention earlier is stlll active. I got Singularity in it. Are there anymore players who would want to join in to lay this game to rest? It has been almost a year since it was banged but no one has any advantage but my corp thanks to CareTaker, and Dynarri. We might kill it in a few days or weeks but if we get more help, we can do the lockout/lockdown quicker. For anyone interested, the game the C game at Farpoint BBS, bbs.farpointbbs.com. Farpoint is an old-style BBS with other games and a message base on it; it is not TWGS. WARNING!! The board is laggy sometimes. Doesn't bother scripts/macros much though. Only an occasion hang or slow-down with them.
