oh sgo plz dont don't do this too me i wanted so bad to switch some things around. in a kidding manner. <sigh> but people are so sensitive any more. the only one i can smack talk is Slim.
I have made this suggestion before but nothing came of it. <shrugs>
Here Goes again. It would be nice if a group of sysops/players could get together make a set of guidelines of proper play. ie no mega corping, or mega corping allowed.
Maybe a rating system. sysops could use, that players would know if they want to play on a server or not.
IE:
Game A at EIS server is rated T24,S,M,=True D,=False
T=Truce {time of truce in Hrs}
S=Surrounding Star Dock Allowed after truces.
M= mega corping Allowed.
D=no duping
Just a thought<shrugs>

Actually, it would depend on what the circumstances were as to how I would respond to mega-corping against me. If I felt the game was ruined and I hadn't invested much time, I would probably just quit, as I've done in the past. If I had invested a lot of time and then felt like the game was ruined, I would probably give out the lesson. Any "strategy" that relies on having more people than your opponent can't really be termed a strategy.

I've been in this game for 5 months. And the tactic I'm saying they want to use isn't even mega-corping. There are 2 corps in the game. US and THEM. And THEY want to bring in "other players" to moth me because I agreed to a "no holds barred" fight. The only thing they WON'T do is pay attention to the part where I said "so long as there is no cheating like that dupe mothing you guys did before."
I have the conversation saved. These guys are trash.

Well, there are two types of ways this can happen. Mercenary (solo players getting paid by larger corps to moth for them), or Dupes. Dupes are in general always wrong (don't know of many games that say duping is okay). Mercenary, well, that is all in the style of the game. Personally, I think if you "need" either, the answer is, edits suck. If the author made the edits so poorly that the only way to invade is dupe mothing...there is a problem.

You don't think anyone needs either.

Extra mothers are NOT necessary. My corp has taken several of their gate sectors out before.

Well, I respect your opinion, but there are many ways to edit a game. I've created, for example, a game that is a "moth" oriented game. It's called "Space Lord Mothers" for a specific reason! I allow 5 dupe accounts per user and there are 20 people allowed in the corp. Some of the planet edits are, well, frankly they are outrageous, but the turns are supposed to be between 2000 and 5000. The game is just "whack" and it's "whack" for a reason. Every single edit was planned and thought out. It wasn't until I had a conversation with Harley that I realized that Dupes should be allowed in the game as well!
This game is designed to be played and played, it has good Alien edits that encourage letting the game run for a while! I wanted a game that utilized all the edits to their fullest, and yet, did not "end in 3 hours" or "in 3 days."
If the game op lets the game run it's course, and the players use strategy rather than quick kill for a while, at the end, it is recommended that the "death delays" be turned completely off, and let the MOTHING begin!
In the end, the guy who has built up the most resources is going to win!
That was the point of the edits to begin with.
Call me crazy, but I'm getting great feedback from people on this particular game!

the story of the 1000 defeating the million i *believe* deals with someone like the spartans defeating some huge army of.. someone
The 1000 were Spartans (actually around 300 hand-picked elite Spartan hoplites and 700 allies) and the million were the Persians (anywhere from 1 million to 25 million - but Army figures in ancient sources should always be taken with a large grain of salt, thought the 300 figure seems to be generally accepted as fact).
The battle's name was Thermopylae (greek: 'Thermo'=Fire 'pylae'= gates). Thermopylae was the only narrow pass through a mountainous region on the eastern coast of Greece, and the Spartans volunteered to fortify and hold it for as long as possible in order to delay the Persian advance and allow the other Greeks a few more days to assemble and fortify. Although there were only 300 Spartan hoplites, at the beginning of the battle they had about 7,000 allies and retainers with them as well.
Despite six full days of battling wave upon wave of Persians, the Spartans and their allies held the pass with few losses. However, the Spartans were betrayed when a local shepherd volunteered to show Xerxes a secret path through the mountains that would allow the Persians to out-flank and surround the Spartan position. On Day 7, the Spartan King Leonidas, hearing about the secret path and realizing that they couldn't hold out much longer, released his allies from his command and defended Thermopylae for another day with only his 300 hoplites and another 700 men who had refused to leave. Leonidas would not abandon the pass due to Spartan Law binding him to its defence, and also due to a prophecy that either Sparta or a Spartan king would fall in the war. Rather than sit back and wait for the Persians to close the pincer, he led an attack against the Persian force trying to encircle them and slaughtered thousands. However eventually the sheer numbers of Persians and arrows overwhelmed them. After a full week of fighting, they were slaughtered to a man.
I saw the Last Samurai too - in the leadup to the big final battle Tom Cruise tells Ken Watanabe about how the Spartans held Thermopylae for seven days against a million. Later, during the battle against the modern Japanese army and after some heavy losses, Watanabe asks Cruise what happened to the Spartans. Cruise: "Killed to the last man." Watanabe: "Goood!" and rushes off into battle.
Thermopylae isn't an example of an underdog prevailing over a larger foe, but it's one of the greatest examples in history of military courage and bravery. They were the best fighting force in Greece at that time, they knew they were going to die if they went to Thermopylae, and they volunteered to do it anyway. Now, the actual material benefit of their sacrifice is debateable, but the psychological benefit was huge IMO - the Greeks were inspired by, and the Persians discouraged by, the deeds of Leonidas and his small elite army.
A few good Thermopylae-related quotes:
". . . their weapons smashed and broken from the slaughter, they fought with bare hands and teeth before being at last overwhelmed." -Herodotus
"molov labe (come and get them)" - Leonidas' response to Xerxes demand that the Spartans lay down their weapons.
"The Persians are so many that when they shoot forth their arrows they completely block out the sun!" "Excellent - we'll be able to fight in the shade!" replied Dieneces, a Spartan soldier.
"Either come back with your shield, or on it" - Spartan mothers to their sons departing for war.
And the inscription on the famous monument set up at the site of the battle reads:
"Go forth and tell the Spartans, stranger passing by,
That here, obedient to their laws, dead we lie"
If you want to read more about Thermopylae, get a copy of Herodotus. A good historical fiction book on it is "Gates of Fire", written, I believe, by Steve Pressfield but I'm a little vague on his name.

If you don't have death delay and also don't have a death limit, you're giving your players unlimited cash. They just need a cby script and a corpie at dock to pass cash to.
