TWX and Win7 getting along yet?
I just reinstalled TWX and Swath on my Win 7 laptop, but it appears TWX isn't happy and keeps shutting down. I'd heard this was fixed, but maybe I'm missing something. Can anybody help out here?

Can anybody help out here? We have the same issues in Vista. The only solution we had was to put VMWare on my laptop to run a "virtual" XP. TWXProxy works perfectly in this environment, no issues or anything. IIRC, I thought there was a solution someone was working on with TWXProxy and Win7 here: http://www.classictw.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24713

Re: TWX and Win7 getting along yet?
EP has a version that fixes this. Dunno if it's posted tho. Ask him.

EVE down all day, I'm thinking of reinstalling TWX too, laff.
Try right clicking the EXE and setting it combatibility to WIN98 or earlier. Also try running it as an Admin. Oh, also do not load scripts from the TWX system-tray-icon (though EPs fix is suppose to address that issue.)

Here is the previous post with the attachment. http://www.classictw.com/viewtopic.php?p=194676#p194676That is not a full TWX install, but rather just the TWX executable, so you'll need to first extract 2.04 somewhere if you haven't already, then overwrite the TWXProxy.exe file with the one from that post. +EP+

I'd thought it was here somewhere, but my search was in vain.

It works good, and some older games that don't rely on video graphic cards work on it (ex: Risk, Risk II, Starcraft, etc). Newer games or games requiring DX9 or require the graphic card driver won't work, since VMWare uses a standard SVGA driver. For us, we use it on the laptop with our AutoCad, TradeWars (ZOC and TWXProxy) which run in an XP machine. Have a second purchase of VMWare which runs on our main system that houses W2K Server. Has never failed me once, and was worth investing the money into this product.

Re: TWX and Win7 getting along yet?
Hmm,.. at $190 online I"m not sure I can swallow that to simply run this game LOL. Have to wait for a proper TWX fix I guess. I do appreciate the info though Thrawn.

Re: TWX and Win7 getting along yet?
VirtualBox is free and works just as well (better in some regards).
One of the problems you will have is that graphics are slow, and sometimes messed-up. That may not seem like a big deal on a text game, but it is. If you're running something that prints to the screen a lot (like a telnet client printing a macro or script flood) then you can overwhelm the virtual video driver. This happens in vbox, vmware, pretty much everywhere.
What I've been using is vbox in "seamless" mode. It makes the background drop out and all you have is the task bar. On that background you can now load swath or zoc or whatever. If you do it right, it'll run on the native OS while twxproxy runs on the virtual OS. You'll need to jump thru some hoops to get your scripts synched up, but this method is a lot faster than a virtual OS alone.
I've been running linux since April '09, and this method has worked well.

RP Sorry RP. I forgot as a company entity, we can afford the software. I tend to forget that. I know there is other software, such as VirtualBox you could look at. I like VMWare myself only because I've used it for many years. Best of luck on your solution.
