Unread post Whats wrong with TW?
This is just my opinon/rantings and ravings...

I came back to TW after a 4-5 year break, just looking to blow a few people up... Instead this is what I have found: In an attempt for every server to appeal to every type of player, they have 500 games going at the same time. News flash: there aren't anywhere near enough TW players for how many games you guys have going on. While I understand you are trying to appeal to a large audience, all you are doing is creating a bunch of pansy, watered down games with 2-3 challengers, if that. Have maybe 2-3 games going on a server at the same time, get it so there is actually a competition instead of freaking scrimmage. I've played in two games now, and haven't been able to blow anybody up because there is no competition/they quit before anybody can kill them. I mean, go look at the rebang forums... The servers seem to rebang like 10 games at a time. Anyone care to guess why? Thats right, because there was only 1 person/corp in each game, and they inevitably had the game wrapped up in 2 days. Cut back on the number of games, increase the competition, and maybe watch TW grow and actually be fun? Just saying...

Peace out!

Oh, and another thing. If by some miracle you do come upon a game where there is at least some competition, you have such ridiculous planets and such that it makes it impossible for anybody to actually ever outright win unless the competition is completely and udderly retarded. This makes it to the people eventually get bored and quit and call it a tie. A tie?!?! Are you freaking kidding me? Wow, TW has some serious issues right now. Unless you can point me somewhere where there is actually competition and a winnable game? Please do tell me.

Stay away from utw hte op edits most edits to have higher ore on planets plus the truces and outragous ships dont make for a balanced edit. Id hunt around for a good corp to play with, then maybe after this tourny is done we coudl get a few turns games going again. Dont lose faith it will come back around one day.

LOL. Not ever server follows that formula. Some prefer to keep the games list small and the edits reasonably balanced.

I've said before that there are more servers than players, but I think Lance hit it on the head regarding the games. Servers try and provide "something for everyone" and that dilutes the player base as he noted. I've played a few games lately and it ends up with 1-3 players in it.

I agree with Lance that it would be good if each server ran fewer games. Possibly 2 unlims, 2 mid turn and 2 low turn type games on a server with maybe one of each being a truce game (if the sysOp can handle enforcement headaches). A seventh game rotating mid, high turn, and unlims for solo players and everything should be covered. Even that may still dilute the player base.

Sounds like he needed to get in this tourney on Sings server. There's lots of killing going on there. The only thing is, he might be the one getting killed. rofl

Go and play at UTW but don't play in the truce games..(unless you like truce type games).Lots of players on that server, and they have plenty of Great competition. I would also recommend Ice9 and also toyland is starting to attract some players. Don't listen to Anyone tell you to stay away from this server or that server...Just because 1 or 2 people dont like a certain server.....You should decide for yourself...UTW has more players then most of these servers all added together. There are plenty of servers that i dont like..thier edits..or thier sysops...But i would never tell you not to go there and see if *YOU* like it there or not. Last but not least.... VOTE WITH YOUR FEET! If you don't like a server then dont play there.Don't bad mouth a server just because you dont like it...Just don't go back...

I have to disagree with SG on not listening to other players regarding server issues to an extent. Granted, if 1 or 2 players have had an issue it may not indicate a problem; however, if you see a continuing theme of issues raised, then you need to at least go in expecting that problems could exist. You can play on the server, but it is "buyer beware". The only influence that players can exert regarding issues is to make them known, and not bury your head in the sand (guess what is sticking up to get kicked when you do that).

Most problems I see and hear of today are in regard to truce games. Either complaints of a lack of enforcement or selective enforcement of a truce. Thing is, guess who creates the problems - the players by breaking truce rules - either intentionally or not. Then it is up to the Op to figure out who actually did whatever and enforce his/her rules to the best of their ability - not an easy task a lot of the time. I have to give credit to sysOps that decide to run a truce game because of the headaches they are taking on when they do that. I don't like truces for several reasons, but for those that do and can't play heads-up, it is good that those Ops are out there.

Here's my 2 cents in a long winded post.

I played TW from the BBS days... early 90's to about 99 is when I stopped. Scripting was in its baby stages back then. TWHelper, TWar, and a few others did the "basic" things... and as far as I can remember, unlimited turn games did not exist. Most games lasted weeks, if not months, so rebangs were relatively few and far between.

When I came back to TW earlier this year, obviously a lot changed. Swath, TWXProxy, MOMBot, unlimited turn games, gridding, etc etc. Some of its good, some of its bad. But it is what it is.

The key areas that need help, as I recently wrote in another thread, are what you mentioned... fewer servers and less games. How to accomplish this, however, is difficult. It would require many sysops to voluntarily shut their servers down, and concentrate on running roughly 3 to 5 servers TOTAL, each with between 3 to 5 games on them. They would become the "official / authorized" TW Classic game servers, and the only ones allowed to advertise on these forums.

The other problem, aside from the above, is too many unlim turns games, and/or, games that rebang every few days. Sorry, but most of us out there have jobs, wives, real life issues to contend with, and "starting from scratch" every week or two just is not realistic. Yea, I know there are highly advanced scripts that do so much of the process, but still, the point/enjoyment of this game occurs when you are at the keys. And starting from scratch requires a lot of at the keys time, which most of us dont have.

I love playing TW again, in my spare time. I play actively in 2-3 games at a time at most. Usually 2. Always low turns, so the amount of time I dedicate to TW can remain fairly minimal. I know some love the unlim turn games, and I would never suggest getting rid of them. Both concepts can easily co-exist... the "fast paced" games that last a few days or weeks, and the longer games that go on for a few months... but the key is LESS TOTAL rebangs.

I'll give you some props for the kill in game W, even though I was still just screwing around. But in game N it would be pretty sad if you didn't kill me seeing as you are part of a full corp, whereas I was just messing around solo... And the fact that you weren't even the one that photon'd me. lol.

You said a mouthful l there..... You play in 2-3 games at a time... how can you give attention to those 2-3 games where you are Press 1 for Outclassed, Press 2 for Out of your league, Press 3 for oops I forgot to run my turns, Press 4 for I have a life so I didn't press 123 before this survey.....

get a life many of the games today are over in 20 minutes if you know the "secret handshake" that you can only learn by following the established practices.... WE NEED MORE BALANCED EDITS THAT NO ONE HAS THE "INSIDE INFO" AS TO HOW TO DEFEAT THE "BALANCES" THAT THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR HAS PAINSTAKENLY PUT IN." .... Yea I haven't played in a few months and am a low level player this is my opinion what is wrong with TWars.... not enough new stuff happening
in edits that challeng anyone.... I'm guilty I know a few edits and what I need to do to make it difficult for new players to make it a challenge so I seem to favor them edits.

Questions to edit makers, make them more difficult^H^H^H^H^H^H^H balanced.

Justa another stupid Texan voicing his opinion.....
