For what reason would I not be able to hear in game messages?

I cant hear anything.. no SS, no Fed, no hail, no corp message, no alien hit messages, no trader has just entered/exited sector, no trader has just ported in sector, no anything.

I have experienced the same thing on the same server, y-city, before and so has corp mates.
This just started happening again.

Previously.. I had to exit enter game and that would usually fix it.

This is also not game specific.. I can log out of one game and into another.. same thing.

Now.. that does not work.
Ive even tried restarting computer.
Tried different telnet clients.

any ideas?
and of course Ive checked to make sure my messages are turned on


[edit: After I logged out of one game and into another.. the same thing happened.
When I logged out of the 2nd game and back into the first, messages back on.. still weird]

check CN7 setting, some twx scripts turn it off but don't always turn it back on especially if the script is interupted.

Keep in mind that the bell character gets in the way of a lot of TWX scripts. Different helpers can play sounds based on the text, not on the bell character. Like swath can setup an alarm to play whenever someone powers up or hits a fig.

just fyi - you realize this is a text game, right? there are no sounds except the BEL, if your telnet client supports it. also, it is a space game, and nobody can hear you scream in space - i don't care how many times you've watched star wars, lasers don't make pew pew sounds in space. (actually lasers don't make noise in atmosphere either except perhaps the burning sizzle noise.) i am reminded of that scene in Naked Gun where he says, "SHH! ... You smell that?"
