Vulcan that might be a good idea, it would help cut the costs of Alienbase. As long as the DNS for AB's domain names can be changed to the new servers. That usually is not a problem anyway and any network administrator worth their salt can do it.

they can and do take in other domain names and other things as well. They use either a T1 or T3 connection too and have backups out the wazoo. so connection problems are at a minimum.

Well this is unfortunate news. Alien Base is one of the best boards and is by far the place were I get the best pings at. But the price doesn't surprise me. Were AB is located, in Spokane, you can't use cable connections as the only cable outfit won't let you get static ip's, also the DSL lines are crap. So it sounds like AB is on a T1 line or partial T1 in a location that really doesn't have affordable internet access for game hosting. If Kidder wants to keep it up their are locations that I know of in Seattle that can get mor bandwidth for a cheaper price.. But at the minimum I will have to say thxs for having the board up for so long. It was by far one of the greatest.

Ok here is the scoop

Yes Alien Base is set to close down the first part of February at this time. That is when the contract is up for renewal. on the T3 line. We have been up and running for many years and i can't even remeber when we started it. It originally was just on Kidders BBS (EclipseBBS) which was a merger of a couple BBS's from the 80's which is still running and has the orginal mbbs game on it. The bills have been payed for by Major Mud users for several years but do to the lack of updates to Major Mud and lack of players it has closed or will close. (I gave up on that game many yrs ago)

Over the years we have seen many of players come and go in TW and even some oldtimers come back to the game. We use to list winners of games etc on our web page after we broke it off the EclipseBBS page. The web page listed is http://www.alienbase.net and do to lack of intrest hasn't been kept up to date.In the 7 or so years that Alien Base has been running the TWGS we have had a Link to Pay Pal on our web page for those of you who thought it was a good server and could spare a $ here or there could donate to keep expenses down. In the years that it has been up and running Kidder has not recieved one donation not a penny. Course she doesn't have to worry about raising her income tax rate too

I can say that I am just as bad as everyone else in that I haven't donated to a server in a long time. I use to dante $5 here and ther on servers I Played on but when something is free I guess we tend to forget.

Ok to make a long story short and sorry for the long message We or I should say Kidder will probably close down Alien Base at this time.
