This game hasn't been fun for a few years now anyways. There is no more strategy it is only a matter of who has the best scripts , the fastest connection and can be on the most. 85 percent of the people that post in this forum haven't played more than 2 to 4 years and don't remember the real megacorps when if you wanted reds to cash you needed to split the corp reds on one side, blue to build planets on the other. That was the real mega corp i was talking about back in the old days.
We actually hunted down our sectors to build in didn't use ztm. When ztm started a lot of sysops wouldn't allow more than one member of a team to do it because it crippled the server ( see the 1998 bote rules i think it was posted in), also this was the first time megarob was not considered to be a bug
It actually was see who could build and protect their planets the longest most of the time they were able to get to L3 to L4 before you got found. Not like today where it is usually a matter of hours.
Sorry for the long post
If you think it's all about who has the best scripts, then you deserve to lose. Some of the BEST players in the game aren't really scripters. They usually know enough to hack out something quick, but they aren't experts at it. They do, however, know when to use scripts, when to use macros, and when to STFU.
I swear, I feel like sometimes I'm the only old-timer left that absolutely does NOT want to go back to the way it was. Sure, I miss the simplicity of it all. But...honestly, I was also bored as **** with the old ways too. It took me a while to fully embrace the new way. I was very resistant to it for a while. But I realized that if I wanted any kind of challenge, I had to switch to the new way.
So, why don't you stop bashing it for a bit, and give the new way an HONEST try. Get the scripts, get the helpers, learn how to use them, corp with other experienced players, and maybe, just maybe, tax your brain a bit. I believe you will find it more complex, more challenging, and much more rewarding. Dang it, I'm having withdraws already. heh

Were they faster build cits?
Yes, they were faster build times on the cits. One thing to keep in mind is the following:
The stock Cit build times were based on 5 person corps with 250 turns per day. If you play in a 250 turn game, you will find that the original Cit Build times are still viable. But when you play 800-1200 turn games, and you don't reduce the Cit build time, then you ARE GOING TO BE FOUND.
And Animal, I was finding people using the same methods back in '90 that I use today. Port loss tracking, dead end tracking, fig hit tracking, limp tracking are still how 90% of people's bases are found. Ask ANY elite, and they will tell you that more often than not, MISTAKES made by your corp are how the enemy finds your bases.

Traitor
I never said i wanted it to go back to the old ways i was just making some points to to younger players as to how it was played. I have played using the new style of play.
As far as getting scripts up til i sold my computer two months ago i had some of the best scripts in the game all the way back to qmodem and some telix stuff. I probably still have most of them saved on cd somewhere allthough can't ever replace a lot of them, just not worth searching for them. I also lost about 60 different .twa files most of which i gave to Vader a while back but a few i couldn't give out are lost, but i did add up what i have paid for tradewars registrations over the last 10 or so years and it is at a rediculous amount. Not icluding twhelper and tw-ats which i don't remember how much they were probably 15.00 or 20.00 dollars each also
twar dos 20.00
twarwin upgrade 15.00
twgs 80.00
attac 25.00 i think
swath 26.00
zoc 45.00
twx proxy 30.00
ck scripts 25.00
total 266.00
Only i am a bit different than you are Traitor i haven't gotten mad and threw temper tantrums and quit and took the website down etc. Which was a shame everytime it happened because you should truly be applauded for that site. i have sent many people i have helped to your site. It is by far one the most informative tradewars site going today
And i have found a lot of bases the same way i learned how to hunt the old way probably about the same time as you on a 9600 baud modem i also seem to remember a 2400 baud modem also.
So as the old saying goes been there and done that.
sorry for the long post

Actually, 266 over 10 years...26.60 per year...that's actually pretty trivial, considering that you've gotten about 10 years out of one game. I know certain people who will pay more than that for one game for a single year.
I've spent more than that, but I got a web hosting service to feed, heh.

I agree, TW is a better buy in the long run, and also I agree with Traitor about not wanting to go back to the old ways, its too boring now I have figured out scripts for the mundane things that take like forever to do the old way.

I spent money on registering TWX for my step son. It's the only money I've ever spent on Trade Wars.

quote: I don't agree with that last part at all Animal. In the last two games I played in, our big 25 member, 3 team corp game, we were able to make several l4's without being found. In the last game I played, BYOC, we were able to keep 3 bases on found the entire 6 days it took for it to go l4. You can still hide bases and protect them very well, and you don't even need the fastest connections or best scripts.
In BYOC, our corp had the same base location for the entire duration of our play. Can't remember exactly how long, but a few weeks for sure, and that was with some pretty hefty gridding for parts of that time span.
Eventually I'm sure that we would have been found, (As they other corps creeped closer to 100% explored). There is no _find_base.ts script. It's all about

... and who your playing against [:D]
