Of course, 3 years after the epic game tradewars launched it's very last strike on the evil gamming powers. Corruption swept the tradewars universe. A long time past in the old republic, when MBBS ruled and Tradewars was a game of honor, respect, and your home BBS was the staging ground for marking your name in tradewars history. Who would of know, that with all the greatness and power, TWGS would destroy tradwars as we know it. Soon, what was once a honorable place to play was now minimized by millions of tradewars servers that hosted hundereds of tradewars games in one location. Once a great empire built in your home board was no longer respected, newbies which once learned tradewars the right way, by getting photoned at start dock, and held fast by a in creditable IG, was flocking to new server after new server hidding from the real players who gave them the real drive on how to play. To combat this new virus that sweept tradewars, AI was introduced so a computer generated pro player could destroy flocking newbies to desolate servers. Little did they know that this AI didn't have the gule and cutting emotional force which the real pro players, whom power was stripped in a ever expending universe of tradewars desperation. The once pro players turned to gameOP, Where they could train the growing number of newbies to the tradewars universe, 45 or so dollars and a cable modem (or nicely hidden 56k on static IP) got your very own universe, and hope to add challenge back into the fading epic game we once know and loved. What was once 20 players to one tradewars game,, now became 20 tradewars games to one player! NEWPLAYERS LOVED IT, they could now become the pro players in a game that no one killed them.. but this new love was short lived because no challenge, no glory,, and no chance to have your name stand up among the tradewars pros. I only wish that people of interest read this message, understand it's meaning and pay tribute to all the tradewars pros who dedicated themselves to greatness in the old empire, and say a prayer for all the newbies who now enter tradewars, who will never achieve greatness because the driving force that made the game great is now gone forever.

I think it's more people don't have patience to becoming better, as long as your getting SDed your learning. By building in a game with 2 or 3 other players who play 3-4 times a week while your building everyday not becoming into contact with any human interaction gets boring and they leave. But if they begin to play on better know boards (who tend to have 4-6 or more active players playing everyday) begin to get tutored (as I have began playing again) and join up in big games, draft games ect. Every game eventually dies but tradewars has another good ten years at least in my mind with new players coming in and maybe 2 in 10 becoming good/decent players and sticking around. Just because you don't see some of the elites anymore doesn't mean tradewars is dead. New players are getting better and as the elites are retiring they are being replaced by the new players with the drive to get better and there are plenty out there. There are new permas forming, I think there are at least 3, and that translates into players who want to continue playing and getting better. I've said it before and I'll say it again tradewars is not dead, if it was we wouldn't be talking about it. Is it dieing yes everything dies but tradewars has some good years ahead.

well, not sure i understood *all* of what you were saying, but i stand by you.
everyone is a noob once.
everyone complains that the elites pwn them.
then there is a fork.
half the people goto backwater servers to be protected by the gameOp so "elites" wont come into a game and beat them. these players never amount to anything and no one every hears from them (unless they are complaining loudly)
the other half goto tw-cabal and start studying, they get on icq and EIS and ask questions, they corp with as many people as they can and play against as many people as they can and always try to learn something each game, in the hopes, that one day, they will be able to defeat the elite that once defeated them. these people end up becoming great players themselves and become the ones who teach the new crop of new players, completing the ever rotating circle of tradewars.
as for honor... well, i'll let my other post speak of my agreement there.

The wayback machine http://web.archive.org/
has 30 billion web pages archived. If there a tw page that gives a 404 error, good chance of finding it there.

Pretty much ditto what Slim said. Plenty of new players join, some don't like to die and leave. Some get in a bad situation, and learn from players who teach them poorly and get bored. Others find servers with nobody who plays and get bored.

We all started somewhere. My opinion is actually pretty simple.
"Everybody is at the skill level they want to be at."

If you don't believe me, give it alot of thought. It really is true.

11 years ago I played some tradewars. 4 active players, 2 on 2 corp. A week ago I found that tw moved to the internet and have not stoped playing yet. I found a nice "Backwater" server with about 6 actives and some nasty computer controlled. Half the probem for me is finding a server that is not over ballanced wish mods. I dont run scripts or bots and get crushed as any who dont seem to be. Dont put Tw in the ground, list good active servers so the newbies who do get hooked on the crack that is called tradewars cant lose intrest.
