I'd be willing to take on one of these anti-scripters in a game. I can almost guarantee I could still beat em.

my gripe with scripts is and has always been that they represent, and have caused, a drastic increase in the time and effort required to play this game.

Sure, they save time on boring and repetitive tasks; but scripts have grown into a necessity - not a convenience - since they're used or can be used for just about anything TW related. So i have sympathy for people who dislike scripts in modern day TW, since its not really the same game it used to be (and that these people are presumably used to). its a more challenging and intense nowadays, i'd imagine, but thats not necessarily what everyone's looking for in a game.

While back in the day all you really needed to play the game was 20 minutes of free time a day and a dial up networking tool (or whatever), today when new players come askin they get the following advice:

download TWX, download ZOC, download revhelp to configure ZOC, plug zoc in to TWX, download free scripts from X location, download CK combat script pack, buy SWATH or ATTAC, configure appropriately

then

learn to use macros quickly, set up a long list of shortcut buttons, never move unless a script or macro moves for you, be online for 1-3 (this is probably a minimum in a lot of competitive games) hours daily together with corpies, when they use X script you use Y script to counter, set up Z script to wake you up at 3 AM when a player is using X2 script to hit your grid. keep track of everything you've seen and use script A to analyze it all after having gotten all your corp homies TWX files through icq or email, then use script B to set up next day's grid route, and so on..

Now, I like TW as it is today and I like scripting. But it is time consuming, and demands a sustained amount of effort just to be kinda competitive. Whenever i think about joinin a game, I remember the list o stuff above and i get second thoughts (in my case its mostly the thought of settin up all those f'in macro and script shortcut buttons and hotkeys, talk about boring :P). Whatever, I guess my only point was that the above just isnt everyones idea of a fun time - and unless they're rude lil *****es then that opinion should be respected and not universally derided.
peace

Darn ph00n, that sounds like too much work :)
i go the lazy mans route and i do just fine :)
do you save session profiles in zoc? its much nicer that way, so you dont have to re-setup macs or buttons.

yea, I can't say i ever made a habit of carefully tracking / coordinating my data either - was jus illustrating what some would say is necessary to really keep up with the joneses. In tourneys I'd be kinda surprised if all I rattled off and more wouldnt be required to win.

i usually save profiles n settings and the like, but... heh, i wiped my drive a couple months ago and didnt bother to save anything tw related except my scripts :P
