Just curious, but was there/is there plans to make a 3D version of Trade Wars 2002? I think that would be most excellent.

I think if it were made with the design much of Freelancer (Microsoft), only it has all the aspects that TW has (i.e. Planet/Port Creation, Corps, The ships, Ferrengi/Aliens, etc.). All of this in a 3D world.

I would definately go out and buy that.

Yeah, wasn't there a "Trade Wars Millenium" or "Dark" something or other a few years back.

When I first saw the concept, I thought it would be cool, but now I realize that TW must remain a text game. If you want to create *another* game, that's cool, but it will not be TW proper.

I wasn't asking so I could make a game/mod like it. I was asking if it were ever officially done/planned/etc.

I love the text version, but sometimes I don't think it could do it justice like 3D could.

Who knows, could be the new Massive Multiplayer Online craze.

I think you have it backwards.. I don't think 3D could do the game concept justice as well as the current text version does.

Think of what the text version allows.. speed, elegance (efficient access to information, commands, creativity), and a world limited by but a few contraints and your imagination.

Add 3D and suddenly you aren't permitted an imagination; the graphics are right there for you. Add 3D and you have to fumble through a, likely cumbersome, user interface for commands and information.. Add 3D and you suddenly have a game that can't run on older machines; not everybody has an AMD 64 FX chip.

I remember reading something like this before, try a forum search you may find more info on the subject, and relize only a select few would like to see the game put into 3D, could it happen, in a way yes, in others no, it won't be the same game and like most MMORPG's(sp?) it's fan base will grow then shrink, many people who are playing text tradwars wouldn't be interested in a 3D version.
