It is the truly skillfull player who can and does abide by every rule for the game they are participating in ,and that includes the "spirit" of the rules in totality for that particular game, and is still able to defeat all the other players.
I have seen many many games with truce times or no kill limits.
I have thought on the reasons for them and concluded that the sysops who have these restrictions subscribe to one or more of the following.
a- They do not have the desire to rebang the same game evey 24-36 hrs.
b- They are still building a "fan base" and want all the players to have enough time to amass something to play with.
c- They have scenerios crafted within the games that wont manifest unless the players can evolve there "stuff" to a specific point.
d- They place more value on a game with many live players, over a game that has few live players and lots of dead ones.
If a restriction is placed on a game and the sysop has taken the time to post it correctly so that any player entering the game is or would be aware of the stipulations if the player bothered to examine the avaliable data then the player should be held accountable for any violations. " i didnt know that was illegal" , is not a defense, it is an excuse. the more experianced the player the more severe the repercusions should be as almost any player who has played a few games knows full well how to get all the data concerning any particular game he or she intends to join.
on the other hand.
If JP wanted to have "truces" or "no kill/ no attack times" it would be a simple thing for him to add to the configuration settings an option that would allow the sysop to stipulate the amount of time before any player could attack anything or anyone that is not alien in nature.
the same response could be echoed as when a player attempts to launch a photon in games where they have been turned off.
ie
"a"
Attack xxx ? (y/n) Y
"Alert"-"(attacking this target is prohibited for x hrs, sysop configurable)"
but nothing like this will happen in ver 3 so relax.

A truce, if placed in a game, needs to have as many rules as possible defined so that no one can squeak by in a gray area. I've played in truces where people blatantly ignore the truce but never get punished.
