I'm putting this in the smack talk forum because I suspect I'll get all kinds of "you don't have a clue how the game works" type responses from people which really don't belong in the "Games Rebanged" forum.
In response to my posting of Game B at Anderson's Toolshed being purged...

Sorry but that is how the game goes.If people dont like being killed in a game, they shouldnt play, ort they should come in when the game starts and not yell because they are behind
UGH
The first day of play, I lurked through to see what the general reaction of the players were to my seemingly basic configuration. It's been many years since I've run a Trade Wars game and I wanted to get an idea of how to layout future games. There was an exchange of communication between several players where comments were made about playing all day straight. One player thought it was cool, several others, who obviously have more obligations in life than just playing a game, felt that it was a bit unfair. Watching that conversation unfold and ultimately watching a user leave never to return, set the path for how I was going to build future games. I did have reservations about setting some kind of time constraint, but two days later, I saw in the logs that a different user played for around 36 hours straight, taking minor breaks. After that, there was definately no way a player could restart after having their ship destroyed.
I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here. Let's get that straight right from the start. What I see as a problem is that people soley rely on helpers and scripts to get the job done in a day, and that just can't be fair to the working class stiff who can only afford an hour or two of play a day.
In the old days (yeah, yeah, groan and roll your eyes [:)]) there weren't helpers available to build up your position in the game while you sat back and watched. We had to do it all by hand, and that was my impression of play when I dusted off my old copy of Wildcat! and emailed John for registration info on the new version of TW and this new fangled TWGS.
My intention was and still is to host a game or two that is fair to everyone. It's not fair to the casual player, and there seems to be more than just one or two lurking in the shadows, when one person comes in and dominates the game in a day. Using Wildstar's comment of "They should have joined the game earlier" doesn't fly. Maybe I should have been more clear with my intentions when I originally posted the games, maybe that would have changed the way people played.
I'm opening game B tonight with a three hour a day time limit and command per cycle delays to, in my opinion, level the playing field. Maybe no one will be interested in playing, that's fine. I was playing a whim when I built the BBS a couple of weeks ago, I can certainly turn the machine off and give the extra electricity to my keg cooler. If folks are interested, I'm more than happy to host some games, and even open to suggestions on game tweaks and configuration as long as it's fair to everyone.

About time I see someone else that likes a fair and balanced game. I refuse to host a game that runs unlimited everything all day long unless its set up specifically to be a 1 or 2 day kill fest. Nice to see someone else out there puts some thought into a game setup.

I look at it this way,We all appreciate you guys haveing the game for us to play.It is your game, run it your own way, which is cool. But just dont make it out like the person who is on a lot is unfair. That is why a time limit is a good idea. The way the game was set up is the way we will play it,and we did.
BTW yes the guy was on for a long time but I can tell you he sat in 1 sector a lot of the time.
So if you want to have a specific game, its cool its your game, just watch the settings.

I normally wouldn't just jump right in on the topic of discussion like this, but the truth is wildstar makes a very valid point, the game settings control the flow of the game, if you want it to be where people have to play what little they can then limit it with turns. But you can sneak into games that have built up players occasionally, it's just not easy.

You're absolutely right. I don't mean to come across as saying "the guys that are on a long time are cheating", that's certainly not what I am implying. I was just trying to give justification to the rebang and present my position on why a time limit and the delays are being configured. Basically the game I had running was unbalanced, and it needed to go away. The new one will hopefully be more balanced for everyone to get in and have some fun. That's what it's all about really, having fun. If it's still seemingly unbalanced, one way or another, I encourage folks to give me suggestions.
