Well.......
Couldnt get my modem to work with XP or 2k...
Win98 won't recognize my dual cpu's or memory over 256mb and therefore is just plain slow...
Won't even touch ME...
And the last straw was... I had given up all hope and decided to go ahead and install 98 AGAIN.....but then during the installation it kept telling me it couldnt find files like notepad.exe and others on the 98 cd which it shouldnt be looking for anyway but it should rather be looking for notepad.ex_ in the Darn cab files.

SOOOO..several kicks to the front, then a quick jerk out of its place in the desk riping all of the cords out and some more kicks and the case and dvdrom are in pieces...think I trashed the motherboard to cause it wont power up now, using the hotwire method since the case is broke. LOL

hell my car ate my fingers, and i didnt do a thing i think you need anger management classes

Shuddup. [:D] PHX, it's called Kitty Mooning your computer. At least, according to Bad Girl and Mana Knight over on tradewars.org. They coined that term for me after broke a cinder block wall with various components of a dysfunctional machine. Or was that after I kicked in the front of the case on a machine... No mind, if they don't run the way you want them to, just give them a kick, a punch, or a body slam... they'll either shape right up or quit working altogether.

Walla....well, I got it working again, its all jerry rigged though, wires hanging out the front of the case and stuff. LOL

Finally made some progress with XP. Instead of not connecting to the internet at all it now just takes like 2-3 attempts to dial in before it finally worx. To manage this I plugged my ISA modem into a different slot. Its still using the same com port and irq and all that crap. Go Figure!

Oh yeah, and the internet only worx for about 5 minutes after which all connections (web, telnet, etc) stop working and the system refuses to disconnect from the ISP, resulting in a reset just to reclaim my phone line. And I know its not the ISP cause I just switched from Netzero to MSN which does the same ****.

Ravebashing!? I think we should give the privelage of coining a term for this to the guys who built ENIAC! LOL

I used to work for DELL tech support and what it sounds like is that your modem is bad. Whenever we would have someone call with a modem that wouldnt release the line it was the modem. They would have to reboot just to free up the phone line. I am sure there are other things giving you problems, but the modem is one of them.

Your probly right, that modem came in my gateway computer way back in 1997. She's gettin old.

Welp, I have just "ravebashed" my computer this morning. After installing web server software and the whole Darn thing crashing I prettymuch toasted it by kicking teh crap out of it. Hopefully I can get my second computer up today and get TWGS back on it and running more smoothly.[:(]
