Hello,

me and my Corp fellow actually need to learn how to handle attack scripts used by others and/or to use them ourselfs. We are in a game where we are in a good condition regarding colos/figs, but there is another corp of three players which uses an attack script that reacts on players entering a sector, calculates the shortest way to them and photons them.

We need to learn how to use such scripts too. Where can we find such tools? I have downloaded several script packs from Grimy Traders but have a hard time to use them, because they all have zero documentation. So I have dozends of scripts but no clue what they are good for.

Actually we are in the need of attack scripts so we can fight our competitors on the same level. I searched Grimy Traders for that but found nothing. So I ask you for help how we builders/explorers can fight those hunters.

Greetings .. Tyrian aka Nero

heh,

run a ztm... then load the script

most of the scripts require a good 'grid' (A grid is laying fighters in series, ie: Laying figs in the path from Stardock to sector X is not a grid, however, SD to X is 13 hops, if we lay a fighter in each ajoining sector in that path, we would have a grid) So, instead of having 13 figs laid (12 counting sd) you would have around 60, depending on the warp out count, these all interact with eachother much like the links in a chainsaw.

Now, imagine your hunting someone, and they start off from sd, towards X, alot of scripts can 'guestimate' where the next hit will be, in turn, the script pre-warps the player by many different methods of travel, and prepares to (or in some cases just:) fires. Many other methods, such as IG snaggin, ect ect.

Almost any Pdrop, or Photon script you get now has most of these features, my personal favorite photon script is by SupG. But there are MANY scripts availiable on grimytrader.

In any case, the ZTM is the single most important tool in your arsenal, helps you find new locatoins for bases, and find others bases (when properly handled) it also allows you to setup offline ptrading routes (when used in conjuction with your CIM database)

One thing to remember Tyrian, it's not the script that gets the kill, it's the well prepared. You could have all the assets in the game, and lose a fully loaded ship to a guy in a scout and 15k credits.

It boils down to knowledge, and ability, no matter what, strive to do better... Not because you want to win... but because you CAN. Who knows, today you might be a tadpole in the game of tw :) just remember.... all us frogs came from someplace :)

Good luck, and happy hunting tyrian

Graz

Basic photon scripts just go adjacent to the hit, warp there and torp into the hit sec. Effective, especially w/ a planet against someone that isn't prepared. Solution is to hit-retreat or mow thru. Mowing is where you move really fast from ftr to ftr, it works because most of the time the ftr hits are sent in the same burst... meaning you're gone before they get the msg. A little lag or delay tho and you might run into their planet. Probably not good, atleast if they have their IG on. Know thy edit and planet upgrade times.

Graz is talking about "anticipation" torpers. It waits for you to go to a more predictable area, like a 2-way, and then torps in front of you (expecting you to charge thru). More effective, but it's easily beaten once you see them work. Anticipation is the answer to the mowing/charging gridder thing mentioned above, but it fails to single hits or small chains... especially if multiple photons are off.

Supg's is good, has some concerns and bugs but until you get a mastery of torping... they won't bother you too much. CK's is also good, both available on grimytrader. You're looking for ptorpsupg or ck_superphoton. They're the public ones on grimy.

While you're at it get rammar's twarp gridder too. If used properly you can making torping very difficult. If you're in need of a ztm use ck's ZTM in 6-pass mode. An oldie but a goodie. Also take a quick look at ck_lawnmow. It's a lawnmower that might help you out (depends on how good they are).

Well, as long as the person you are asking nicely ISN'T Stockton, then it might work...

Hey,

thank you all for your answers, lots of interesting stuff to read for me. As Singularity also named the files I could identify them and had a look at ck_superphoton.

The file ptorp.cts from SupG's pack aborts with the message "Script file is an incorrect version". The file date from ptorp.cts is 15.11.2003, I use TWX 2.03. Does that require an older version of TWX?

@ Grazhoppa: When I said "at the same level" I thought about tools on hand, not experience. I know that I'm a kind of intermediate player who still needs to learn much. This is what I do and why I ask.

Beside that I don't know much regarding the other players. While they are good hunters they seem to be poor builders. So we have the majority of figs and not them.

@ Stockton: I'll rather get #SD# before I do that [:)]

Thanks again for advice .. Nero aka Tyrian

Supg's compiled scripts are all for 2.02. You need his uncompiled ones. Go here: http://twinfo.org/

Use the "source" directory. Not all of them work, some only partially work... so test them before you commit to them. The torper is called PtorpSupg.ts I believe.

Explains some of the ck scripts in better detail.

As for hunters v builders, depends on the game strategy. I rarely build massive bases anymore since I can just eat other people's. It's more turn efficient, definately more time efficient. Tipping point there is when you don't expect a quick-enough victory to suppress enemy opposition. At that point you have to build some, even if it's not a massive base. I've won games on only a 10% ftr count before by trapping people and taking one planet at a time. This tends to work better on high turn or unlim games instead of low turn games, games w/ only 800 turns tend to need some kind of building strategy to keep the resources coming in... atleast against decent players. It's not the figs that matter, it's what you do w/ them. =)

When you use ck's superphoton you will need a ztm and a ck figfile first. I recommend assigning ck fig refresh to a hotkey, it makes life a lot easier. Ck's figfile is also used on oz scripts if you ever run across them, supg uses his own format that doesn't work w/ ck's so you may find yourself running fig refresh 2 or 3 times just to get them all done.
