Since I just reopened Taz's Underground (after several years), and since the game and players in general have evolved from their previous states. I am curious about what people think about games with Limited Turns vs. games with Unlimited. That way I can make educated decisions on future game setups.

Refer to the Smack talk section. There is much debate over this issue in there. But all that it really comes down to is there are alot of people who like one and hate the other. Perhaps you should diversify and have a little of both types of games.

We have our TWGS available with our BBS and the turns were unlimited. No one said anything to me. I imagine that it may be a disadvantage for new players, whereas the stronger can dominate. I think the limited turns was meant to put experienced and new players on an even keel, so to speak. As a SysOp, I'd provide both, and post it in the descriptions: the limited for newbies, and the unlimited for the more experienced. Then everyone is happy.

ROFL...Experience...heh. I have no idea why this bugged me. Limited players and unlimited players are like cats and dogs. You just can't really compare the two, as they basically play two different games.

The decision on whether to play unlimited or limited has absolutely nothing to do with experience. It has to do with time and play style. Unlimited games tend (yes, i'm generalizing) to be very time intensive, but short duration. Limited games are less time intensive, but tend to last longer. The tactics are completly different. Just because a player likes the arcade-like fast pace of the unlimited, OR if they like the chess-like strategy of the limited games, does not in any way mean that they are more experienced than the other.

That is true. I never thought of it that way. I've played both, but I found if turns were unlimited, then those that knew the game well tended to dominate the game. That's what I meant by experience. However, you cleared up the confusion on our part. Thanks.

Hmmm.... I wrote this post in the beginning of October, I forgot about it until my subscibe Email started coming in. Back in the day when I played Twars it was rare to find an unlimited game. So my style of play is more toward the stategic, because you didn't have enough turns to play cat and mouse with everyone. As far as scripts were concerned, I was writing scripts for Telemate, a communications package that I am not sure if it even exists anymore. And back then people were wanting to pay me for these scripts that would colonize, move resources, attack, I even had scripts that talked to other corp members that were running the same script to set up cordinated attacks. Now I come back into the scene and everthing has been adrenalized. Bunch o' ISS's runnin' on Nitro! I have noticed that most of my new players have been in the turn games until this past couple of days. Now all of a sudden after the smack talk started in the other forum, I have a bunch of new players in my one and only unlimited game. Go fugure.

In any case, I thank you for the replies, I have discovered already I have to offer the best of both worlds. Seems now its a 50/50 thing. Now all I have to do is get my calibre up to the Nitro level, and see if I can remember all those nice moves I used to use when I did decide to play cat and mouse.

(PS no point in my post here, except I felt like talkin' BYW if there is anyone who played 'bout 10-15 years ago, on Montego Bay BBS, specifically, Walking Stick, White Knight, or Stainless Steel Rat, just letting you know I moved back in town. Email me or raise some hell on the new board!)

White Knight is around and active. He was part of the Good Guys corp that won back to back victories in USO 2001 and WTC 2001. Walking Stick showed up in last couple years on the late Frogland BBS that went down in August this year and heard he was still living in FL at that time. I looked at your board and seems to be nice....seems a TWGS server needs to have unlimiteds for some and a nice edited low turn game for others. My preference is low turn strategy games. For newbs a stock game is good for learning basics as long as more experienced players don't hop in to just take over and that is very difficult to prevent. The helper files you are building on your web site are great and I was totally impressed by "What are DeadEnds, Bubbles and how to find them?". It is the best special subject I have seen in a few years of reading info about this game![8D]

FC, That is great news, I used to sit back with Walking Stick and WhiteKnight many times on the back porch under the Florida moon banging down the suds and coming up with Twar Strategies. Of course with Gold edits and evolution some of those strategies are obsolete these days. I have been down their street, but the house doesn't stick out in my mind anymore. If you run across either of them, direct them to my direction if you would. I could really use a reunion so we can get online and tear up the town![}:)]

Thanks for checking out the site. I am totally dedicated to it, and hell I wouldn't mind a few strategies to throw in there under your good name![:D]

Limited turn games are the most fun and build the best tradewar players.. Unlimited games build good script writers.

Either game can make or break a player turns or no turn games.. if you getting into the game and trying to learn. Try the higher turn games first, so you have more to play with. And when you want to define your skills to a better level play the lower turn games.. But there's all kind of caliber players in the both of them.
