Ok, I've always noticed that you get various trade in prices on ships, and you can get one price for one ship, and another price for an identical ship. I've never really tried to find out why this is because the difference is usually so minimal that I could care less. However, recently I received a trade in price for a ship that was TENS of MILLIONS less than the trade in price I was getting for an IDENTICAL SHIP with the IDENTICAL ship's compliment. I captured an example of this, and I'm throwing this out to see if anyone can explain to me why the large difference in price. In the capture you will see that I was in a ship called the "Dragon Slayer," I captured this ship from Kivas Fajo on Silverwinds. I received around 8 million trade in offer for the ship with 400,000 fighters on it! This surprised me, because I had purchased two of these ships myself, and had traded one in, earlier in the game with 400,000 figs on it and received around 56 million in trade for it! So I went and got another Dragon Slayer (one that I had purchased), put 400,000 figs on it, and checked it out. I was given a 34 million trade in value on the ship, and I can see NO DIFFERENCE between the ship that I was offered 8 million for, and the one that I was offered 34 million for! Here is the capture. This high value ship, what had it done in the game? Only sat in dock? Been used to PPT? Etc? |

Its a basic premise of the game, and has been the same in all versions since 1.03. If you were to take two(2) 2002 ETC's with the same options, color and appearance to your local car dealer and trade them in and one car had 146700 miles on it and the other had 5,000 miles on it how long do you think the dealer would stay in business if he offered you the exact same amount for both? |

Next time, tell us the server and the game. I'd like to see it for myself, because I question the facts you say your giving to us. I hope this isnt some form of entertainment. ? 400k figs can't be worth 6/8mill (whatever it was) at one second trade in value and over 26/? mill a second later. Either its you or something. Ship types dont even matter in that aspect. 400k figs are worth a certain price weather its class A ship or class B ship. (ship comp./main/hall etc.. are different) but fighter resell value will remain the same if not very close. maybe the sysop changed it to 1 credit fighters while you did this just to make you think the game was bugged ? (was sarcastic) |

As Rick said, trade-in value takes into account the number of times a ship has ported, as well as other measures of the use of the ship. And this depreciation is applied to everything being traded in, not just the hull. That includes fighters. |

My question is why would anyone in their right mind sell of 400k fighters with their ship since they wont get the original cost for them if they purchased them. If they were produced by planets and you have that many to spare to use as currency then the game is over and your beating a dead horse anyway. |

Draconis: quote: This high value ship, what had it done in the game? Only sat in dock? Been used to PPT? Etc? The high value ship was used to only move product and figs around, the low value ship was taken from someone who was using the tar out of the ship. Rick Meade: quote:first you left out the most important capture of the second ship, but regardless the reason for the difference in price is the use of a ship the 8mil ship has been ported 1467 times, which is the reason for the huge difference in price. Its a basic premise of the game, and has been the same in all versions since 1.03. Thank you for that. I'm mildly surprised that I never noticed this as many years as I've been playing, yet, as I said, I've noticed differences in trade in values, just never narrowed down the cause before. Now I know. Thanks again. As far as leaving off part of the capture, it was an oversight on my part. HeatSink: quote: Next time, tell us the server and the game. I'd like to see it for myself, because I question the facts you say your giving to us. I hope this isnt some form of entertainment. ? The server is Silver Winds, the game is "A." I still have both ships, if you want, I'll let you capture them and you can check it out for yourself! I think, however, that JP and Rick Meade's word on it should be enough As I've said before, it doesn't matter what I post in here, someone will question what I say and accuse me of being either a liar or a fool, even when I'm looking for help and just want to understand something... sigh.... As I said in my original post, it really didn't matter, I was just curious. As to your question why sell the figs? Laziness I guess. I wanted a quick 50 million for various things, haven't done much trading, all my planets in there produce nothing but ore, and yes I DO have that many figs to spare Shrug. It's only 400k figs. When your planets are making MILLIONS per day, heh you don't even miss them Besides, whoever said I'm in my "right mind?" Heh! |

I posted on this some time ago, and even researched the exact formula to determine trade-in value. See my post in the forum below titled "Ship resale values": http://www.eisonline.com/TWforum/topic. ... C_ID=11971 To recap though: Resale Value=PurchasePrice*(.9-(.001*(#ofPorts-30))) The limit is reached at 830 ports, where the resale bottoms out at .1*Purchase Price. At <= 30 Ports, the resale is .9*Purchase Price. +EP+ |

I'm trying to figure out the usefulness of this information I'm impressed by your attention to detail, but honestly, Stardock is gonna give me what it gives me for the ship, if I don't like the price, I just keep the ship |

wow.. EP is the man, heh. i dont recall who said it (why sell 400k figs) but i will give them an answer. if you make 10M figs a day and need quick cash, you go buy a ship (brand new, never ported) and fill it up with figs, then sell it, bada bing bada boom, you have cash. heh, if you are selling a ship that a red used or a ppt or buydown ship, heh, remove the figs first (or fill it up with carbo and tow it around with you, heh) noobs j/k Slim |
