I was on a starmaster and I asked a friend who was a red to let me pod him(id pay for ship and give him extra)

So he got on a scout with a single fighter(that fighter is important right?) and i attacked. full force of 2000. But I thought poding always happened. Man was I wrong. He died.

Alright so what are the relative strength and damage done calculations that decide whether someone gets away in a pod from a attack or dies?

see, in order to have a pod, you have to be in a ship that carries a pod, and the scout does not. Its the only ship in an unedited game that does not have one.

LOL. So it was the ship? I dont remember reading this little detail anywhere. So you do always pod no matter how overwhelming the odds as long as its not a scout or a pod?

Ok taking into account that a ship actually has a pod, if it has 0 fighters and you attack with one fighter you should capture it if it has no shields and a pod will exit the sector. If you attack it with 500,000 fighters it will blow up and a pod will exit the sector. If it has no pod and you attack it with even 1 fighter, providing it has no shields, it will blow up. As earlier stated, the Scout Marauder does not carry a pod unless it has been edited.

There is something to note though. Where is that pod going to go? There's an link in the strategy section over on tw-cabal that discusses this. Good things to know when you are podding or getting podded.

excape pod would be smaller then a single fighter. It only needs room for a single person.

Scouts can hold 25 tons! thats alot. Plus its fighters(how ever many, I forget)Dont worry about room. Theres more then enough

Don't forget: Pods don't have pods!
(I guess that goes without saying)

Unless the sysop has edited a pod to have one, which I have seen done :) You're normally best off to try to find a listing of the complete edits if you can.

Are you sure about that? I mean, there might be a ship named "*** Escape Pod ***" but an actual pod-type ship cannot carry another pod.

Yes a pod type ship can carry another pod , but it is tricky to setup.
I have a scorpion ship in some of my edits , it pods to a scorpion.
Other ships I have in another game, the victory cruiser pods to a joy ride, both ships can be purchased at Sd .
These are all edited gold ships.
It can be done.

I thinkwhat CK is saying is that your ships pod to another ship not to a "pod". They go from ship to ship to pod. And that technically a pod is a ship with no escape pod, but you can have several layers of ships before you get to that final ship.

I think I just confused myself.

Well now lets not forget the fact that you can only get podded twice a day. If the ships are setup to go from one to another to another evertime you get blownup/ship capped, you still have that 2 pod limit, then you die. Even if the pods are just another ship.

Molean! What the hell are you talking about? Crazy!

Learn something new every day. It IS a bit tricky to set up, but it CAN be done. Basically, you have to start at the top of the food chain and set that ship to use whatever pod you want. Go to that next ship, make it a regular ship, then select what pod it should carry. Continue until you get to the last ship.

For example - to make an ISS pod to a battleship, which pods to a Merchant Cruiser, which pods to an Escape Pod, start at the ISS and make it pod to a battleship (you'll have to agree to convert the BS to a pod). Then go to the BS, change option 3-J ("Used as escape pod") to "No", and set it to use a Merchant Cruiser as it's pod. Even though the BS can no longer be used as a pod, the ISS was not affected, and it will still pod to the BS.

This is obviously a bug in TEDIT, but there's no real harm in it, as long as players are aware of what kind of pod each ship has in each game.
