You know, I think I've seen every TW guide out there on the 'net. There's one serious problem that seems to continue to crop up, bigtime. Most of them were written about 5-7 years ago. Has anyone looked at the TradeWars Bible lately? It's talking about planets having a max of 1,000 colonists on them. I don't remember this ever being the case, and I've first played.. oh.. 7 years ago, back before the 'net really caught on. Anyway.. None of these seem to be reasonably up-to-date, and they don't seem to be built for the web. By that, I mean they never contain hyperlinks, the information isn't arranged into tables, there's no option to open a frame with your table of contents in it, there's no search engine on it to look up a particular word in the documents, etc. etc. etc. There's a million things none of them have. This message base, you might argue, *is* the modern guide. It has interactivity, a search engine (I think..? Maybe not.), hyperlinks all over the place and so on. But there's STILL a problem: This isn't as instantly helpful as an actual guide would be. For instance, lets say I needed to know what the damage amount per hold of fuel ore on a sector q-cannon blast would be. How would I go about finding out that information here? Simply post a message and Hekate will come along and answer it eventually. (*grin*) But what if I know an attack is coming and I dern well need the info _NOW_ so I can plan my defense? This is a particular situation where such a thing would be very useful. Does a comprehensive guide exist on the 'net which is built for the net? Or should I begin building one? --Me |
