Ya know, that one's prolly been taken out for a very very long time.
I've never heard about it before now, but it would have been pretty funny, you're right.

There was a very very very old variation of tradewars that had Clark Kent as the protector of sector 1.
I’m not even sure that variation was called tradewars though I’m sure if you Google history of tradewars and it variants you might be able to find something about it.

Maybe it was taken out and I am just showing my age?
I recall having Feds in one game, and I attacked Earth by mistake and it mentioned some guy named Kent that tore a hole in my ship and warned me to stay away from Earth. That was in sector 1, I think attacking the planet or colonists causes that.
If not, maybe the Feds do the same thing now? Who knows? I'd try it, but I am retired and reformatted my hard drive and lost my TW-Helper registrations and programs.

Hmmm I just download the TWGS demo and tried it. The option to attack Earth or kill colonists are gone. If you try to leave figs in sector 1, you lose 10% of your Figs and Sheilds from the Feds. I did not notice an alignment or experience change.
As far back as 2003 I was still playing Tradewars on some BBSes, I think a few of them ran an older version of Tradewars. Hence my confusion.

I miss being able to blow up terra. The option got taken out once mixed corps started showing up. It became too easy to take out. You can still see that it's got serious figs on it tho.
<Atmospheric maneuvering system engaged>
Registry# and Planet Name Citadel RLvl Fighters QCanRLvl Cls

< 1> Terra None 0% 656T None M
Owned by: Federation
And you can still make it shielded. But all that does is make it look pretty.
Sector : 1 in The Federation.
Beacon : FedSpace, FedLaw Enforced
Ports : Sol, Class 0 (Special)
Planets : <<<< (M) Terra >>>> (Shielded)
Warps to Sector(s) : 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
Command [TL=22:15:08]:[1] (?=Help)? : L

< 1> Terra <<<< SHIELDED PLANET >>>>
Land on which planet <Q to abort> ? 1
<Land on Terra>
It takes your very best navigational effort to avoid the multitude of
"space junk" in orbit about this planet. Your computer system finally
establishes a link with the Terran Traffic control system and you
relax as it brings your ship down automatically onto the last major
Space Port on Terra. You shut your systems down and head out to the
main colonists' departure terminal, hoping to find plenty of eager people
willing to risk the hazardous trip in CryoFreeze just so they can live on
a clean, abundant planet.
There are currently 100000 colonists ready to leave Terra.
Do you wish to (L)eave or (T)ake Colonists? [T] (Q to leave)

Cool can you give it a quasar setting and IDC as well? That would seriously mess up a game, unless the programmers took out those options as well? Heh heh [;)]

You can turn on the cannons and stuff, but it still won't attack you.
Best I could do was this:
Sector : 1 in The Federation.
Beacon : FedSpace, FedLaw Enforced
Ports : Sol, Class 0 (Special)
Planets : <<<< (M) Terra >>>> (Shielded)
Warps to Sector(s) : 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
Command [TL=20:52:20]:[1] (?=Help)? : L
<Preparing ship to land on planet surface>
<Atmospheric maneuvering system engaged>
Registry# and Planet Name Citadel RLvl Fighters QCanRLvl Cls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
< 1> Terra Level 6 100% 659T 100% M

Ah well, if some other player tries to land on it will they own it as well, or get blasted because you own it?
