Yeah, but it's equivalent...
If eisonline really thinks they can charge almost 90 bucks for a text based game server, they are snorting something...
I plan to mock ridiculous prices by...dum dum dum...hosting a MUD instead.
Free. Modifiable. Exandable. Easy to play. Easy to host. Free.
Did I mention it was free.
I piped the TRADE_WARS Fido echo into my BBS, but it's all the same people that post here, so I figure I'm not really missing anything by not reading it...

Actually, they seem to succeed quite well charging what they do. If I remember right, hvs charged something like $400 for their version of tradewars. So considering this actually gets active development and bug fixes, I'd say what they charge is a pretty good deal.

Allright, allright. We've got an angry person with many gripes. This is addressed to those wo love to play the game. To those who would rather play this game than the overpriced 3d sim that will be out of date in six months! I have played and hosted TW since version 1 on many BBSes. Recently, I had the resources to do a side-by-side comparison with my synchronet and twgs. Do you know what I found? The twgs version of tradewars is faster, better, and less buggy. With the countless hours that I spend on tradewars, it's a steal to have a server for so cheap.
On another note. I will continue to happily send money to EIS for the registration of their software. If I don't, this package will die and I won't enjoy the evolution through the next ten years. YES I've compared all of the products. If you don't love tradewars, NUTS TO YOU! Thousands of us do and we support the evolution to a 32-bit, realtime app one day. Long live EIS!!!

Sorry 2 cents about to kick in... hosting a mud is *gasp*

Sure... easy... if you can code C on the fly, have 23 out of 24 hours per day free, don't particularly like leaving your house, and love to hear people complain.
