Is there any plan to port Tradewars 2002 to Linux?

If you mean TWGS or the actual executables for the game, none that I know of. You might be able to run a DOS emulator, but that would probably only work for you locally. I don't know about serving it over the net. If you're talking about playing the game, as you might know, everything is server based and all would need would be a telnet client for Linux.
As far as I know EIS hasn't released the source code for TW2002, so if anyone was going to do a Linux port, it'd have to be them.

The non-DCPI DOS version runs well under DOSEMU, and you could probably set up some kind of proxy to connect a telnet client to a virtual TTY. I messed around with it some, but curiosity was my only motivation so I never really did anything with it.
I wonder how well TWGS runs under WINE...

Having just tried it... TWGS runs under WINE; however, try to bigbang and that fails to execute.. WINE doesn't emulate command.com, so while the 32-bit Windows server works, the DOS-level game beneath, not so much.

When I tried running TWGS under WINE, most of the buttons wouldn't work, and then the whole thing crashed. Needs more tinkering I guess.

There are no plans to convert v3 to Linux. Blame Borland for making some interesting claims regarding Delphi's portability to Linux. However, if/when v4 is started, and if it is built from scratch, I'd be willing to bet the farm that it'll be portable to linux.
(By the way, I don't have a farm...)

Not that having a farm would be a bad thing right?

Not at all. I'm a "small town girl", from a small town (under 300 people) in a predominantly agricultural area of Nebraska. I didn't actually live on a farm, nor have I ever worked on a farm, but I knew plenty of people that did, and I don't find anything at all wrong with farming. Or raising livestock. It's just not for me. I had to get out of the small town and into a "big" city.

regarding the borland issue, isn't kylix basically just delphi for linux? i would imagine that would make porting it over a bit easier.. no?

That was actually the original assumption, that it would be no problem to port from Delphi to Kylix. That's pretty much the whole idea of Kylix, after all... or at least one of the prominent advantages of using it.
My understanding however is that the Turbo Pascal objects used in Trade Wars v3 are not Kylix-portable. Basically, all the objects would have to be rewritten before it could be ported to Linux. Since that would basically require re-writing the game from scratch, which is what v4 will be all about anyways, there are no plans to spend more time on v3 than required to make it stable.
Porting v3 to Linux would be either a step backwards in development or just staying on the same level we are now, whereas v4 will definitely be a step forward in the Trade Wars "saga".

regarding v 4, will registered v3 ops be required to register v4, or will it be a free upgrade? just curious.

The pricing of v4 hasn't been finalized yet. (Heck, v4 coding hasn't even begun yet.) Pricing strategies for the next version of the game have been discussed, but nothing firm has been decided yet, so I really can't say for sure what it'll end up being.
