Hi I ptorped someone who was online and they managed to get away...I was wondering why?

I stumbled across his base that had 5 planets, only one lvl 5. I think he landed on the planet and ran...

I thought the p-torp took away his turns...or is it possible he landed on the shielded planet before it exploded. In which case, how did he know he was getting ptorped??? Is there a message about a p-torp hitting the sector?
