Hi,
I will purchase TWGS and TWGold. But I only have access to a Linux server.
I would like to rent serverspace to offer Tradewar Games of my own Settings. Adress? Costs?
I would like to assure, that I (nor anyone else) cant manipulate the Game when its startet to run, since I certainly want to play in the Games too.
Is this possible? How?
Jschrey

There are certain functions that are only avaiable to the local user. Unless you have a screen to screen program running on the host, you wouldn't be able to access it, unless you gave the hoster permision to do it. And I don't think anyone would give screen to screen access to anyone to their computer due to the extreme security risks.

I cannot reconmend a host for you, but I can tell you where to look:

http://www.tophosts.com/

Find servers that run NT, W2K, and ask them questions if they will run a Telnet server and see which ones say "Yes".

If I had my DSL not blocking server access, I'd host it for you for free provided that I get to use the TWGS software to create my own game edits. But also my ISP is blocking server protocols and the TWGS logon sees the login prompt, and freezes up when the player gets to the Game ANSI screen. At that point they have a X byte limit and deny any more access to the port.

Which funktions are meant? I thought one can run extern etc. as a batch on autotime?

Extern runs automatically every night, but you can't run bigbang on a game through the tradewars admin port. You have to have access to the machine in general, either physically or through something like PC Anywhere.

Fat chance of most web hosting giving you PCAnywhere or even VNC access. Too much of a security risk.

Get a cheap PC with a lot of RAM on it, install Windows 98, and have the Linux machine pass through to it via a port passthrough program.

You could do something like a colocation. Set up your machine then pay some place to put it in their rack for you. You could run whatever you want on it then. Granted, that's probably a bit more money than you're looking to pay each month :)

understand, what if i just bang the Game at home and then ftp the whole directory on my serverspace?
I have an older windows 98 standing around but my DSL-Flatline drops carier sometimes. Besides I dont actually want acces to tedit once the Game is going. Since I would like to play on some of the games too. :=)

It sounds like you don't want to run a server. You just want to create edited games, and then have someone else host them so you can play. Nearly every sysop out there is willing to do that for you.

I'm not sure what the result of ftping your game directory to the server would be. As cherokee said though, there are plenty of sysops who would be happy to host a game of your choice for free. Ask in the game rebangs section if any sysop would be willing to run a game with edits you design for you.

Check out my rules page at http://twgs.worldt.net/, if they are acceptable for your game export to a .twa file and email it to behold@worldt.net and I will host your game.
The only other thing to take into account is I have a max time limit per day on all my games of 6 hours.
If you want to check out my server first telnet to worldt.net
